George Putnam, the pioneer television news anchorman and conservative commentator whose distinctive stentorian voice was a mainstay of Southern California broadcasting for decades, has died. He was 94.
Putnam, who had been suffering from a kidney ailment since December, died early Friday morning at Chino Valley Medical Center, said Chuck Wilder, Putnam's cohost, producer and announcer.

Rest in Peace, good friend. Yours was an exemplary life. Go with God.
RIP, Mr. LA Newsman.
I remember him well from my boyhood in Chino. RIP.
God bless you George. You were the lone-eagle conservative in an ocean of liberals.
For many years I listened to George. He was a great man.
Rest in peace, George.
I had no idea he was that old when I talked to him. Take a look at the picture of him on his Wikipedia article. This was taken in 1965 when he was already 51 years old but he looks young in that picture.
At least it appears that he was blessed with a long and rewarding life.

End of every GEORGE PUTNAM Newscast =
“See ya later, See ya then”
.
DougfromUpland, you undoubtedly already heard about this. But here are some other factoids, which I believe are correct, about Putnam.
Descended from Israel Putnam, General in the Revolutionary War (though not a good one).
Was a Democrat, an FDR man (interviewed Eleanor Roosevelt), though I don’t see these claims verified anywhere other my memory.
Was the template for Ted Baxter on Mary Tyler Moore’s show. This was a dig at him by the lefties, even back then.
I suspect he wanted to be around at least to see this November’s outcome.
Guess he is on a new and better assignment somewhere . . .
If anyone, anywhere deserved to be described as a "gentleman journalist" he was the one.
RIP
It was a remarkable career. He started talk radio.
Never heard of him...sorry for such a horrible decision on a career, but RIP.
RIP, Mr. Putnam. Used to listen to him on my car radio at lunch time. Was quick to see the evil of the Clintons.
I remember him from back when we lived in CA during the 60’s and 70’s. RIP George.
Being born in SoCal I have followed George’s career all along. In recent years on the radio. Yes he had a lot of stories to tell from the 30’s right on up to today. He had “One Reporters Opinion”. Hope I got that right. RIP George you will be missed.
I am saddened to hear of Mr. Putnam’s passing. We were fortunate to have had him with us for 94 years. May God rest his dear soul.
He was a great one. A conservative newsman and supporter of Governor Reagan during the dreadful late sixties.
“That’s one reporter’s opinion. I welcome yours.”
God rest him.
George was the John Wayne of the broadcasting world.
He was a voice for freedom and reason.
God speed, George.
