Whenever I read a poll, I look for the dem/rep spread. It’s not often disclosed, but when it is disclosed, it’s 14%.

Also, others on other threads/blogs have said everyone’s at 14%.

If there are pollsters who have a better grip on reality, I don’t know who they are. I’d like to know.

You say Rasmussen has a 6% spread. If so, he’s closer to reality. But there’s never in our history been more than a 4% spread, so I think he is still at least 2% off.

“If the election were held today, Obama would probably win. But a lot can happen in the next four weeks.”

If the election was held today, Obama would win 15 states. Maybe......

There is something the MSM is refusing to do. That is show the real poll numbers. They are hiding the senior vote. They are hiding the white male vote and the are hiding the married woman vote. They are also hiding the union vote in battleground states.

They know the truth. The 600 pound gorilla is in the room. Democrats are racist. We already know that Republicans are going to vote for the Republican candidate regardless of who it is. What the MSM is scared of is what happens when the Democrat voters, the one who voted for Hillary in PA, Ohio, Mich, Wisc turn out and vote for McCain.

There is nowhere to hide.

If Obama wins, he can credit the credit market meltdown as the event that put him over the top. ... BUT ... It isnt over.

... AND THESE LIBERALS SAY “ITS OVER” EVERY ELECTION:

Palin bounce, stock market crash, we need to be up when the bell closes, simple as that. October surprise like Bush’s DUI in 2000. Or something more simple like a stuttering spell during the debate.

Calm down on Sarah. She wont have a future if the ticket doesnt win and that means she needs to win.

The libs will hate her anyway just for not being an ugly pro-abort man-hater.

She’ll have a future. The base loves her. She is the reason that McCain is competitive right now. She has potential to be a real leader of the conservative movement, as does Bobby Jindal.

However, I question going after Ayers in the midst of an economic crisis. It’s very easy to give off the impression that while the economy implodes, McCain/Palin are talking about Ayers. I think it’s a totally legitimate issue, just one that should have already been used to define Obama. Now is the time to hit Obama on Fannie/Freddie/ACORN and their role in this.

You go after both. The timing on Ayers was wrong. It should have happened before the debates. The debates were the first time most Americans had seen much of BO. He seems like a pretty level-headed guy. All he needed to do was look credible and he won.

The questions about terrorists and Wright should have been driven home hard in the week or two before the debates so, when folks saw him, they saw ayers and wright and a slick guy who is pulling the wool over their eyes.

It's a lot harder to do AFTER the debate. But McCain's only chance now (given the economy) is to drive BO's negatives thru the roof. And you do that with terrorists, wright, rezko and Obama's accepting $125,000 from Fannie Mae.

Even if McCain doesn't win, BO reaches the finish line badly damaged goods if the attacks are hard and focused. So in the worst case, he can do less damage as president. As soon as he starts to act like BO and coddle terrorists, cut the military, surrender in Iraq etc, people will remember what the ads said. It sets the stage for a congressional comeback in 2010.

These people know good and damned well had this Ayers stuff come out eighteen months ago, Hillary Clinton would be the nominee today.

Okay, so why didn't it? Other than that Hillary was in SDS herself -- and Slick. Non-sequitur here.

But also keep in mind what the MSM did to one of their own in order to secure the top spot for Mr. Uniter.

Sorry, your oblique reference loses me. What did they do? To whom? You didn't mean Judy Miller?

I am not certain why people are preferring Obama for economics (at least according to the polls).

Follow the link to the original Wolfson article, then scroll down through the reader comments [barf alert]. One reader contributed a nugget of understanding.

Obama has positive ratings in the 60's. People tend to like him -- he radiates likability, he knows it, and he's using his charm the way Slick did. It's an asset.

The TNR reader/subscriber pointed out an arcanum of psychological necromancy, that people don't like to believe bad things about people they like -- they just reject it. It's the "Teflon effect". McCain doesn't have any Teflon, but Obama does, so McCain can point out Obama's unsavory connections all day, and as long as the Dem faithful sustain Obama the way the congressional Dems sustained Slick during impeachment, McCain, Palin, and the entire Supreme Court will never lay a glove on Obama. And Obama, having watched Slick Willie, knows it.

I'll add another bit of info: Another necromantic fact about human psychology is the phenomenon of transference.

If I tell you in all candor and with complete accuracy that a person you like is in fact an escaped felon, a known check-kiter, and a convicted arsonist, you will react to me as if I were, in fact, a forger, arsonist, and fugitive from the law. You will transfer the burden of the other fellow's deserved odium to me -- because you like him. And you will dislike and distrust me ever after.

That's why gossips are so universally disliked. The more accurate and telling they are, the more they're disliked.

This fact of life carries great dangers for McCain/Palin and the GOP. Time to call in the surrogates, guys.

Come to think of it, where are the surrogates?
