It's Over: Why Bill Ayers Won't Save John McCain (liberal editorial)
The New Republic ^ | October 10, 2008 | Howard Wolfson

Posted on 10/06/2008 5:00:34 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Perpetually fretting Democrats will not want to accept it. The campaigns themselves can't afford to believe it. Many journalists know it but can't say it. And there will certainly be some twists and turns along the way. But take it to a well capitalized bank: Bill Ayers isn't going to save John McCain. The race is over.

John McCain's candidacy is as much a casualty of Wall Street as Lehman or Merrill. Like those once vibrant institutions, McCain's collapse was stunning and quick. One minute you are a well-respected brand. The next you are yelling at the messengers of your demise as all around you the numbers start blinking red and stop adding up.

McCain's road was difficult to begin with: the President of his party has had record-low approval ratings for two years and the number of Americans who say the country is heading in the wrong direction is stratospheric. He also had the misfortune to be pitted against an exceptional candidate running an extremely well-executed campaign.

Still, before Wall Street's collapse Senator McCain was ahead. His approval ratings remained high, his VP pick had generated excitement and interest, and his campaign operatives were capable, on any given day, of winning news cycles and giving their opponents fits. And then the underpinnings of American capitalism begin to sink -- and with them sunk McCain.

An election dominated at its inception by the war in Iraq is now overwhelmingly focused on the economy. More than half of voters in polls say that the economy is their top concern and Senator Obama enjoys double digit leads among voters asked who can better fix our economic mess. Put simply, there is no way Senator McCain can win if he continues to trail Senator Obama by double digits on the top concern

If the election were held today, Obama would probably win. But a lot can happen in the next four weeks.

Had Howard Wolfson not been on the Clinton campaign, she would have won the nomination. He is a complete dufous. He whined when Mark Penn suggested Obama be taken to task on Rev. Jeremiah Wright. His advice is irrelevant.

I sense the Mo has changed, and McCain will need to keep it through Nov 4 if he’s going to win.

If he didn’t stand up and hang the collapse around the necks of its sponsors and protectors, then by default he gets to take the blame for it.

There is still time, but once people’s minds are made up, it gets tougher.

Their problem is that there is just so much of the ammo where the Ayers connection comes from. We haven’t even gotten to his Looney tunes pastor and congregation or his corrupt financial dealings with Rezko or his connection to Saudi sheiks yet.

No, Obama isn’t going to look trustworthy come election day.

Obama’s tax hikes on business and investments will bury the economy.

Well, this whole piece can be called into question considering Howard Wolfson said the Democrat primary was “over” against Barack Obama.

However, I question going after Ayers in the midst of an economic crisis. It’s very easy to give off the impression that while the economy implodes, McCain/Palin are talking about Ayers. I think it’s a totally legitimate issue, just one that should have already been used to define Obama. Now is the time to hit Obama on Fannie/Freddie/ACORN and their role in this.

I’ve said this before, so forgive me, but I’m worried about Sarah becoming too polarizing a figure to be a compelling national figure in future elections. Allahpundit (not my favorite blogger, very pessimistic), says she is screwing her political future by engaging in these attacks.

Again, Allah is a nattering nabob of negativism....what do the Freepers think?

Like Sean Hannity said today, the LSM (Lamestream Media) is trying their best to suppress GOP voter turnout.

These people know good and damned well had this Ayers stuff come out eighteen months ago, Hillary Clinton would be the nominee today.

But also keep in mind what the MSM did to one of their own in order to secure the top spot for Mr. Uniter.

The tone of this article is one of sheer panic. The MSM was not expecting these inconvenient facts to be found out.

What a desperate, last-ditch effort to demoralize the opposition and cover up Obama's terrorist ties. That's the only tactic they have left. They're hoping this Big Lie will stick.

Where the hell is Obama’s “economic plan.” He’s got nothing and always did. All he ever was, was some new guy, and his name ain’t Bush\McCain.

As for McCain, and his economic plan? He hasn’t helped his cause by joking that he’s not good on the economy.

Well, he better get good; and fast.

Months ago I said that I would rather have Hillary - and I fear her faction greatly - than Obama.

I’m getting ready for a mailing to all my neighbors with Obama signs, and buying ammo. I leave close to some “threat” areas.

Why Bush Is Toast By William Saletan Posted Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at 3:00 AM ET Since Labor Day, the media have released about 20 polls on the presidential race. Three show a dead heat, one shows George W. Bush leading by a single percentage point, and the rest show Al Gore leading by one to 10 points. In the latest polls, Gore leads by an average of five points. It’s fashionable at this stage to caution that “anything can happen,” that Bush is “retooling,” and that the numbers can turn in Bush’s favor just as easily as they turned...

I lost count in 1996, of all the stories and predictions of failure. Dole did lose, but not by 28% as forecast by some polls (including CBS). He lost by 8%. How many people stayed home thinking it wasn't worth the effort to support Dole? And here we go again with conservative voter suppression using polls.

To their credit in this election, CBS has just released a poll showing a tighting in the race (4%).

The above article is just more propaganda. We're getting tons of it now. Might as well move along here people, there is no election here, its over. Well guess what, you got 4 weeks left so you better hold onto your hat.

When the American people wake up and realize that Demron or FannieGate, or whatever you want to call it is owned by the Democrat party and its main proponent Barney Frank (and his lover, a director of Fannie Mae) that will be the moment that it will be all over.

This is total CYA dis-information in a desperate attempt to cover up the Democrats mess. The damage done to world markets should have the world clamoring for the removal of these democrats involved in blockading any effort to regulate Fannie Mae, and in fact, expanding its dangerous practices that allowed it to become a national embarrassment.
