Obama wins over heavily-Republican suburbs
Daily Herald ^ | 11-05-08 | John Patterson

Posted on 11/05/2008 5:23:01 PM PST by Impy

Chicago Democrat Barack Obama did what at one time seemed politically impossible: win throughout the suburban region long considered home base for the GOP.

In DuPage County, where Republicans for decades have counted on strong turnout to boost the GOP ticket, Obama won 54 percent of the vote with 99 percent of the precincts in. To put Obama's early, unofficial total in DuPage County in perspective, his more than 224,000 votes there are nearly as many votes as Ronald Reagan received there in his 1984 landslide over Democrat Walter Mondale.

Not only are Obama's votes the most a Democrat has ever received in Dupage, it's within a couple thousand votes of being the most votes any presidential candidate has received there.

Similar tales of turnout for Obama were being told across suburban election offices.

In Kane County, 52 percent of voters sided with Obama.

Will County's Obama turnout was nearly 56 percent.

Suburban Cook County voters turned out nearly 2:1 for Obama, who had more than 66 percent of the vote.

Obama won more than 59 percent of the unofficial vote in Lake County, becoming the first Democratic presidential nominee to win there since Bill Clinton's razor's edge win over Republican Bob Dole in 1996.

Obama tallied nearly 52 percent of the vote in McHenry County to John McCain's 46 percent. In comparison, this county delivered more than 76 percent of its vote for Reagan back in 1984 and has constantly delivered consistent margins for Republicans until this election.

Nope...not cool at all. I think the media made Bush look worse than what he was and McCain took the brunt of it.

Duh. The Blues move into Red territory to escape high taxes and fees. But they bring their stupid ideology with them — which creates high taxes and fees where ever they move.

They are a plague. A virus.

May they all die. Soon.

The same thing happened when the black Carol Mosley-Braun won a Senate seat. She had all these Republican women voting for her.

The next time around these women came back to the fold.

When their taxes go through the roof they’ll wonder what the heck they were thinking when they voted for that socialist.

I am amazed at the number of Obama signs in my neighborhood. The dimwits fail to realize they are the target of Obama’s new tax policy 5% margin income tax, plus 6.2% when the ceiling is lifted on social security, then add in dividend and capital gains increases and we are talking a serious dip their wallets.

I live in Wilmette, a rich suburb in Cook County, and friends of my parents who once usually voted Republican were now voting Obama (maybe even my mom), but a lot of them have voted Dem for a while now.

“Duh. The Blues move into Red territory to escape high taxes and fees. But they bring their stupid ideology with them — which creates high taxes and fees where ever they move.”

Precisely.

But this goes beyond that people that still vote Republican have been hyped up by Obama.

I live in DuPage county, and considering the number of 0bama signs I’ve seen, I’m not surprised.

. . . she said all the wealthy white people thought they were so cool voting for [O]bama.

I picked up on that, also. It's almost as if they wanted to be on the A-list for the cocktail parties they would be invited to anyway.

Why is this a surprise?

The Libs have been the party of the rich and the poor for 20+ years. The Republicans are the party of the middle class.

As a (hopefully) upwardly mobile moddle class person, I am doing a modified “John Galt”. I will no longer financially support the Libs in any form. That means cancel subscriptions, avoid TV (which I do anyway) and change the people I do business with, as necessary. F*** them if they think I will support their socialist utopia.

My brother lives in Winnetka and while he is a rich capitalist, he is now a ‘Rat. His hero is Robert Rubin, the crook from Goldman Sachs who may be in the One’s cabinet. The names being bandied about for Treasury Secretary are all complicit in the financial debacle. Not a bit surprised.
