"My call for our party is to be open-minded...not to become "anti-immigrant"

Sorry, nobody home to answer that call...I'm closed-minded about illegals!

The President isn't talking about ILLEGAL immigrants, he's talking about the attitudes that some develop that are truly xenophobic, and put down anything having to do with immigrants, even LEGAL ones.

Frankly, I've seen that here on FR. Folks make snide comments about anything having to do with folks with Latin American sounding names, deriding them as probably being illegal immigrants, without ANY evidence to support that contention.

MOST people in the US came from immigrant stock, and there will continue to be immigration to the US, legal and otherwise.

Those women are largely unreachable. 2 full decades of woman have been indoctrinated from first grade on that abortion is about the same as the right to vote. They are also firmly committed to behaviors and attitudes that are virulently anti traditional marriage and family.

In Obama, they mostly vote for the husband they wish for, and will mostly never have. That, or the guy they would most like to “hook up” with,,,its as simple as that.

My daughter is an exception,, and i know many of you have good christian daughters too, but we must face,,, this generation of young women is mostly the solid property of MTV “real world”, hip-hop, vagina day at school, and girls-gone-wild. Its sad. And no republican position on abortion would attract them. They still would vote for who they can most imagine being in bed with.

The President isn't talking about ILLEGAL immigrants,

Oh, yes, that is precisely what he is talking about. He's still whining and fuming because about 70% of the American people opposed his amnesty for all illegals nonsense. Remember his snide and smart-assed: "See you at the bill signing" after an initial defeat of his amnesty during the summer of 2007?

That defeat is the only reason he keeps whining and bringing this issue up. He's said that he regrets he couldn't get his amnesty done, though he was by no means honest enough to call it the amnesty that it was.

Of course most came from immigrants, but not illegals.
By your logic,,, please explain who on earth cannot claim American citizenship? It sounds like you think anyone who simply *gets here* is entitled?

Why is it so impossible to discuss illegal immigration without it being a discussion of immigration as a right?

Also,, when do we get to discuss lifting the draconian immigration limits placed on mostly white european nations? It seems like you have to be brown or from a third world hell-hole before the door swings open. How many Somalis have we taken in,,, as opposed to say, Poles, Brits, Ukranians,,etc??

Why are whites largely not allowed to become US citizens anymore?

“If you’re so under the sway of the MSM or too dense to recognize the fact, there’s little we can say or do to change your misconceptions.”

Ah, Freepers, you seem to be so knee-jerk in response to any statement that you disagree with that you go off in tantrums.

I am neither pro illegal immigration, nor pro abortion. I am conservative.

But I am advocating that Conservatives figure out a way to present their viewpoints in a more acceptable way. You get more flies with honey than vinegar, ... The liberals figured this out long ago. That’s why they obtain power and manage to keep it.

But based on the reaction to what Pres. Bush wisely said, I don’t hold much hope for you all. And if you all represent conservatism, I predict that we are done for.

I would propose on the immigration thing, that instead of threatening to deport all the folks who are here, we take the position that we want to help them assimilate and become part of the American Dream. A conservative approach would be to help them form small businesses with lower tax burdens.

In the case of abortion, rather than threatening to put young girls in jail, we take the position that we want to help mothers by preventing the physical, psychological and emotional harm they will face if they go through with an abortion. A conservative approach would be to help these young mothers in church- or faith-based groups that would help them raise their babies.

But again, based on the reaction here to what Bush said and what I said, I don’t hold out much hope for you who call yourselves conservatives.

Regrettably, I believe part of the fault is ours -- the conservative electorate. Once the Contract With America -- a very conservative proposition -- helped Republicans win Congress in 1994, they immediately began straying from conservatism. By 2006, they had lost their way. The problem was, we didn't effectively police the guys we'd elected. As a Congressman or Senator lapsed into "business as usual", became beholden to the Beltway mentality, began voting for pork and feeling just a little too comfortable in his job, we didn't discipline them via the primary process. Knock a couple of incumbent waverers off in the primaries and you'd be amazed how quickly the rest "come to Jesus"... Perhaps, we were too concerned with the anti-Clinton side of the political game...and not enough with the pro-conservatism side. But once conservatism is ascendant again, we'll have learned a lesson: Don't let the bastards get away with anything!

I do not disagree.... Conservatives did NOT defend their own, say like Newt or Tom Delay and usher them out of the realm of relevance quicker than a blink of an eye... and the moderate protectors of their future SS checks looked for the notion of 'big tent' republicanism, without holding fast to the principles that got them the majority in the first place.

The big tent policy was an attempt to coop liberalism and the liberals struck back running 'conservative' democrats in well researched seats. Nobody saw it coming and what republicanism ignored was those within the party that allowed the Foley types to go unchecked only to be used to shut down those identified 'values voters'.

See there is a large contingency of 'moderate' republicans that despise more than even the liberals do those 'values' voters and the liberals know this. The I like illegals cleaning my toilets and cutting my grass moderate republicans are no more reliable in elections than the 'values' voters are. Just that those elitists educated moderate republicans have the means and access to point their accusing fingers to those of the values voters as being a thorn in their proverbial side.

I learned the literal meaning of the word 'faith' during Clintonism, raising three children having to hear day in and day out about what was and was not sex. So NO I am not please with the course of events but I know who is in control and view the political landscape as a bit of Heaven sent winnowing out those with the proverbial spine and those who sit in their gated communities itching and moaning over all the stupid people that cause things to get where they are.

If they make the existing illegals "legal", then the crime pays and we can expect a lot more of them.

That's true, and also add to that the fact that employers want these people because it's cheaper when you have off-the-books employees. When they suddenly become legal, the employers will have to bring in new illegals to get the benefits they seek.

I'll go against the grain of this thread and say I'm opposed to illegal immigration, but I'm not a big cheerleader for legal immigration, either. Not when we are being asked to take in millions legals on top of 12 million (lowball figure) illegals. I'm not against legal immigration forever, but we need to severely restrict it at least until we have secured our borders and driven these invaders out (which can be done without mass deportations by denying benefits, cracking down on employers, etc.).

it’s far more than just the business need for cheap labor...in fact I think that is a canard

the fact nearly all illegals are non white makes them untouchable in our PC culture

folks are afraid to tackle it

where the 30 million illegals all Ukranians, no one would care or do sob stories about them being rounded up and deported

the Democrats want the votes they know they can be guaranteed from non whites

How about blasting the commie policies of Obama instead of his own party?

He's not blasting the party. He's blasting the rank and file.
