In a rare moment of candor, President Obama explained to an audience how government-run healthcare would work in America....Obama suggested at a town hall event Wednesday night that one way to shave medical costs is to stop expensive and ultimately futile procedures performed on people who are about to die and don't stand to gain from the extra care.

Its a shame the Framers of our Constitution did not expressly forbid all Branches of the FedGov from exempting themselves from the laws they write.

We would be a different country today.

I went to a campus meeting at a Calif college, today. The union guys and collectivists at the college are very jocular despite the massive fiscal crisis we have.

Who gets to decide it is useless? Same people that decide to kill their babies I guess.

We could just give every citizen a $2,000,000.00 life insurance policy at age 50, and tell the kids about it. Problem solved, no one on Social Security.

Who gets to decide who gets treated? They can't leave it to the doctors, who may decide to treat everybody. Treatment decisions will be performed by some federal bureaucrat.

Then the big question becomes, by what criteria will the bureaucrat decide?

Is he likely to bar treatment to somebody with "connections", no matter how futile?

Given that black males die earlier than white males, will there be "affirmative action" on health care? Will there be pressure to restrict care on whites so as to make life expectencies match? Don't be too sure it won't happen.

Who decides is the rub. That will be a decision I will make and hopefully not some government or insurance company bureaucrat. But as health care gets more and more expensive with fewer and fewer people paying for it its going to become a generational issue in my opinion, and the kids out there might just simply refuse to pay..
