Store or Starve: A beginner’s guide to food storage
nationalexpositor.com ^ | 1/21/10 | Ron Shirtz

I want people to store food not only for their sake, but for mine as well. I don’t want to decide which of my kids have to go hungry when you and your unprepared kin come knocking on my door. Contrary to progressive-collectivist thinking, every individual who takes care of themselves and their families benefits society by not becoming a burden. So take responsibility now and start today. Don’t expect the Feds to come by to hand you your ration of government-rationed cheese. You could be in for a long wait. Wait too long, and you may end up with a green-stained mouth from eating grass, like the poor Irish during the potato famine in the mid 1800’s. Or seriously reevaluate your aversion to cannibalism. Compared to those desperate methods, dumpster diving comes off as luxury cuisine.

Put a green house up (almost finished/ hurt my shoulder) last summer. It's by RION, made in Israel...Snaps together like leg-gos... Can't get to it in the snow, but will be able to soon.

Got any recommendation for someone who has never used a gun and needs to hide it in a small location. My mom was an ace shoot, but I've never had a gun.

Just curious, why won’t a glass top stove work? Or an “outside propane barbeque cooker with a side burner”?

I thought I was pretty well prepared until we had an ice storm a couple yrs ago and was out of power for a few days.
I have a generator that helped considerably. But many other vulnerabilities were exposed. Many of those vulnerabilities have been covered now. Unfortunately what is left requires more money than I have to spare.

We could manage for awhile. But still a long way from anything close to a comfort level.

Agree. Our first duty is to family. It is not my responsibility to care for someone who didn’t prepare when all the signs were warning of danger.

Opening your door could turn your home into a superdome congregation and leave your family perhaps worse off.
When people are desperate your life is of no concern to them.

I do a lot of dehydrating. It’s a lot easier than canning and doesn’t require as much additional equipment.

Anything wired in a circuit will be fried. Individual electronic components not assembled will survive an emp.

The solenoid in a car is not what gets fried. it’s the computer ignition module.

.357 stainless steel double action revolver, 4” barrel (any shorter and you can blow your own fingers off in a panic)

Shoots both 38spl and .357 mag

Get a .22 for practice, preferably of similar design.

If people think you have a good store of food and other survival items, they will just crash your door down and kill you and take your stuff. Even if you think you have your position well defended, desperate people will study your perimeter for weakness. They will be relentless because they NEED what you have, ALL OF IT. Sharing a little just tips them off that you have more and are holding out.

You and your family’s life have no value to desperate people.

Go to survivalblog.com and read “Retreat Security. I am Your Worst Nightmare”. You will never take your security for granted again.

Well, what you do is set aside some smaller care packets, have them all made up and ready to give away. Make it clear if you help someone out it’s a one time deal, and point them in the direction of the closest pantry or government help.

Excellent advice.

Regular gas stoves can be converted to propane.

I knew of someone who pressure canned on a camp stove, Coleman type.

First there OpSec, You don’t go announcing to everyone that you are prepping. As I said I am putting away a bit I can afford to give away, but I will donate it anonymously more than like through my church. Second things look like that then that’s when I bug out, I’ll be damned if I let them just take it I just as soon take a leak on it before I hand it over to some bureaucrat to hand over to a bunch of sluggards that have contributed one thing to society.

“Have always kept the freezer full”

If there’s no food, don’t expect electricity either. Frozen food will last two days.
