Found this softbound edition for ten bucks at Costco the other day, y'know, 'cause I needed more books in the house...

Hate to say it, but it sounds like you are too close to population centers. If you want to be truly safe, you need to get far enough away to be out of range of any ground vehicles. That is, too far to reach on a tank of gas in a 4X4 or off road motorcycle and too far to walk in and return in a day from the nearest road that an RV can negotiate.
In a pinch you can make a wood burning heat/cook stove out of an old steel drum and a few feet of stove pipe. All you need is a hammer, a cold chisel and a punch or hand drill. I made one such for my friend’s cabin near Klamath Falls and spent all of 1973 and into ‘74 living there completely off the grid.
Anyone depending on an RV for survival is, in my opinion, deluding themselves. RV hookups? That’s a laugh.
Anyone who thinks they will defend their rural “Compound”, let alone suburban home, against marauding bands of opportunists should consider that anyone out foraging in force will likely be well organized and heavily armed. The best strategy will be to get so far away that you are not worth the trouble. Once you are found you will be the subject of repeated attacks.
Just my opinion. Worth no more or no less than any other.
Obama will quickly be on the air to tell us “Not to jump to any conclusions” and how Islam is the religion of peace
Turning on your radio would look like you were flipping your wig.
Dust off my copy of “How to Serve Man”.
You got to soak liberals in milk tho, to get the gaminess out.
I thought that was supposed to happen on 12/21/12, did they reschedule it?
Americans are ingenious. You’ll figure it out. . . (evil grin). . .
I've been wanting to store some canned food, but here in Canada is has up to 30% sodium. I'll have to learn how to do home canning.
Being aware of man’s inhumanity to man, you think it is prudent to be trusting?
To rely on others?
Logic tells me otherwise.
I’m going to scrounge up every Sociology and Psychology and groupthink herstory text I can get and burn them for fuel...That should get me through a few winters—in North Dakota.
12/12/12 just sounds even more menacing, sorta like the number 19. What’s 9 days, we’ll just all need to party faster.
It’s even easier if you breach and radiologically contaminate the oil pipelines near where they cross the Mississippi river in Louisiana. Oh, and breach the dike to make it that much harder. 80% of the eastern US would be without fuel in 5 days.
Every time I read the end of that book I get WAY too personally involved. I tear up EVERY time Col. John Matherson drives into town and meets up with the Army unit. Especially since he had to bury his daughter just a few pages prior.
And going cannibal is not the way to survive.
The problem is that there are many more facets that were not
addressed in his book. As it is, I can see this happening on a longer time line without the pulse. This is what scares the bejesus out of me,
.
the best approach would be to have many people living in your house...with defined roles...its harder to rob a home when there are many people there....
folks...we don't want any of this to happen....
some of you might be safe in your cave in Wyoming eating antelope meat but all of us have family, friends, in every part of this country.....there will be no rest or peace or happiness or relief that you are safe when everyone you love is starving or being attacked...
maybe the answer is to UNITE instead of dividing...
Better to have something oversalted to eat than nothing. Store some natural diuretics, like dried cranberries or jam, dried orange peel, tomato products etc. They will counteract the salt in your body.
