I understand what you are saying. Maybe he was being PC, but to me, there is one true living God to Whom we should pray.
God Bless you.
I’m with you on this. George Washington talked about Divine intervention by God. He didn’t say anything about “gods” nor did he pray to Allah.
If honor is to be restored to this nation we need to follow the example of the founding fathers. And there wasn’t a muslim among them. This political correctness asking all religions to pray is not going to help this country. I don’t think praying to the “great wind god” will have much of an effect. It sure didn’t help the Indians keep their lands when they were fighting the U.S. Army.
It certainly wasn't a Mormon prayer style, though.
I listen to Beck’s radio program on a fairly regular basis. He talks about “God” (no “s”) all the time. You’re really working at this too hard...knitting is a good hobby.
A recording of the hymn--by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir--is available here.
Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus anointed that prophet and seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
Refrain:
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
Praise to his memory, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins,
Stain Illinois while the earth lauds his fame.
Refrain
Great is his glory and endless his priesthood:
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
Refrain
Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know "brother Joseph" again.
All is forgiven. Now can I go vote the Dhimmi-crats out in November?
Psssst. Not everybody in America believes exactly as you do on the subject of religion. Not every gathering of conservatives is an evangelical revival meeting. Pass it on.
I was there and thought he was saying gods, but just figured it was some kind of speech impediment.
I am a Mormon and I like Beck for what he says and does, not because he is a Mormon. I don’t like Romney or Harry Reid because of what they say and do, not because they are Mormon.
I can make a list where the Bible uses the term gods too. But, the Bible is still the word of God no matter what I think it means. Just like Glen Beck’s rally CAN still be the work of God no matter what was said in the prayer. Is it the work of God? Maybe, maybe not. I personally believe anything that promotes faith, hope, charity, and freedom is of God.
Genesis 3:5
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Genesis 3:22
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of US, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.
(The only beings in existence are the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Satan, and Adam and Eve. Satan says gods and God says Us.)
Exodus 15:11
Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?
Exodus 18:11
Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.
Deuteronomy 10:17
For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
Joshua 22:22
The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knoweth, and Israel he shall know; if it be in rebellion, or if in transgression against the LORD, (save us not this day,)
Listen to the word “blood” at 8:36....it definitely sounds like it ends in “t” when he says it, somewhat like BLUH-T.
Sometimes when he says God, he does the same thing, sounding more like a “t” at the end than a “d”. A “t” that extends in time slightly and trails off at the end can sound like “ts”. I believe that is what you are hearing.
You ask a person to provide the opening prayer. You don’t ask them to tell you precisely what their wording will be.
I don’t agree with the use of the word “Gods”. That being said, I’m not convinced it destroys what Beck was trying to do. I certainly don’t like it. It is not a Christian prayer, once a call to “Gods” is invoked.
I have discussed the matter of this event with others. My emphasis was on Beck’s call for people to return to God.
It’s a hard sell for me to accept that an event is consecrated by our God, if a prayer asking for the consecration is addressed to “Gods”.
In the interest of not offending anyone, an event can lose it’s direction. I am not enthused to know that Imams were present on the platform either.
Our nation was founded by believers in the Christian God. We had run-ins with the Muslim believers early on in our nation’s history. Now some well-meaning people seem to think Islam can peacefully co-exist in our midst.
One need only know what is taking place at Disneyland right now, to realize how corroded that idea is.
At some point, you have to offend some people, because non-believers cannot be treated as true believers. If a religion wants to destroy your own, it’s best to keep them outside your borders, unless you wish to surrender.
Islam wants to destroy Christianity. Gods? It’s well on it’s way...
Besides, I think you are missing the point of the rally and the motivation of those who were in attendance.
In other words-—
TROLL ALERT PEOPLE!!!
Glenn Beck is the man chosen (by whom?) on the “right” (political right) who will decieve many into the new One-world religion AKA Satanism!~
Just my 2 c and I was there at the rally (and it left a bad aftertase in my mouth, so to speak)- I had a much better experience as I was on the metro and an anonymous college student entered (a girl of I would guess between 18-21), she didn’t attend the really, but I could tell she was a local college girl, I was sitting with my party (4) and she entered, I did not give up my seat; which made me feel like a heel, she smiled at me with such love/forgiveness that I couldn’t have believed, and simply pulled out her Bible and read the Word of God!
This simple act of wittness for Christ to me, was greater than anything that Glenn Beck or any suppoed minister on the Mall that day had on me! Right there I dedicated my life to Christ, and have wrestled with it since-I can’t do it, only through Christ’s grace (his forgivness and belief in Him & then my public confession) can I or anyone be saved!
We should strive for this king of faith that this little college girl demonstrated, IMO, and not bombastic public show which was deceptive in it’s spiritual implications that Glenn Beck demonstrated on the mall.
Yes, I like when Beck exposes corruption, and teaches history so I am not a Glenn Beck hater, but IMO one should not listen to Glenn Beck on matters of belief in Christ the Savior!
I can’t tell you what religious bigotry looks like.
But I knows it when I sees it.
Mormons believe they will all be gods someday. Therefore there is more than one god in their view.
Their theology is not orthodox. I'm glad for Beck's exposing the socialism in Obama's administration and I hope it will continue but Beck's religion is not biblical truth.
Much ado about a verbal tic.
My advice to you, EVERY HEAD BOWED AND EVERY EYE CLOSED. Next time someone is praying take that opportunity to lift up the event speakers.
You are correct, we are not to pray to “gods” but to the one true God.
I heard it to, but I figured that the speaker just had an accent (I’ve heard people from NYC and England make an “S” sound where a “T” is in a word....especially if it’s at the end of the word.
However, you may be onto something here.
It’s a shame because from most appearances Glenn Beck did a very good thing with this rally.
Matthew 6
King James Version
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
