Why the Tax Bill is a HUGE WIN for the GOP
12/7/2010

Posted on 12/07/2010 2:59:55 PM PST by GLDNGUN

I don't understand why some people are wringing their hands over this tax bill. Actually, I do. Some people aren't happy to get 99% of what they want. They want everything or nothing. Other people will not be happy, even with 100% of what they supposedly want. They live to be cynical and won't have their favorite crutch taken from them.

exactly. There is no win here.

So the Mid Term Election of 2010 was a huge joke played on us on FR?

Nice vanity.

But let’s hope the GOP doesn’t get too cocky. We have a long haul ahead of us, and will only have half of Congress in Janurary. In the mean time, the Dems are going to dig in. And let’s not forget all of Zero’s Tzars. They don’t need Congress. Fortunately, the House does have subpoena power, and investigative commintees.

Many battles ahead.

This thread is a case study of what’s wrong with the GOP.

Excuse me if I don’t dance in the streets and hand out candy for getting slightly less than status quo.

More spending, same tax rate.

Whoopee.

What part of your butt did you pull that out from?

The same part I find all of your "fairtax" crap. And you STILL utterly failed to answer the question. I'm not interested in hearing your anti-Bush rant. Try to stay focused here. The issue at hand were the Bush tax rates that he got passed and were about to expire. Did you or did you not want them extended for all Americans. That was the issue being debated and negoiated. If you don't think it makes any difference one way or the other, then just say so. Of course, you know it would harm the economy if taxes for all Americans go up. You just can't bring yourself to say it. It's ok. Go run and play in the fairtax sandbox now.

So all of the conservatives and economists were wrong when they said tax hikes would devastate a fragile economy? Or you just don't care?

The tax cuts should stay in place but no victory should be celebrated until real Tax Reform is enacted.

This skirmish is nothing to call home about. It was a cakewalk after all the hard work that people did to get conservatives back ot Congress, and yet the old RINO guard is still not getting the message.

That you would say the FairTax is ‘crap’ shows how ignorant you are of history, economics and America innovation.

I have addressed your stupid question which is along the line of whether I think feeding Americans chicken sh*t is preferrable to feeding them baked cow chunks.

“If you were neck deep in a barrel of sh*t and someone was getting ready to throw a handful of snot at your face, would you duck?” Jean-Paul Sartre

**** EXACTLY. and they will go up because the DEMS controlled congress for 4 years and never addressed this matter ... until now at 5 minutes to midnight. They DEMS created a huge mess ******

Which is why I tried to explain time ago...that it was important to win ONLY the House this time around.

This is an insider sell attempt, right out of the Bernay playbook.

Actually ‘more spending, same tax rate’is a good thing as it will bring a quicker end to the Ponzi scheme. Fewer nations will be willing to finance our out-of-control debt, the Fed will quicken the monetization policy bringing further devaluing of the dollar, higher commodity prices, all of which will lower the American standard of living. Then maybe(a big if here) the American sheep will come to understand that a nation, just as individuals, cannot live beyond their means indefinitely without paying the consequences. Allowing the tax rates to expire would have allowed the farce to continue for a little while longer with the only winners being the banks and the politicians who ‘service’ them.

As I asked on another thread: How many conservative buttons can Obama push without actually changing anything? We will soon learn.

You don't reduce the overall size of government by encouraging growth elsewhere.

How many times does it have to be pointed out? Apples and oranges. This was not a budget fight or size of government debate. It is about the issue at hand - the expiring of the Bush tax cuts. Period. Do you want them to expire or not? Yes or no? Simple as that. If I told you a year ago or 6 months ago that Obama would sign a bill to extend the Bush tax rates for ALL Americans, including the "rich" - the same tax cuts that Obama has railed against endlessly - you would call me a dreamer. You would say that Obama is a Marxist who doesn't have it within him to do something like that. Well, he blinked. Enjoy.

There needs to be some clarification as regards the unemployment compensation portion of the deal. I have seen some posts which exposit that there is still a 99 week overall limit per individual and that what’s being done here is to not end everyone’s UE benes irrespective of whether or not they’ve reached the 99 week limit. In other words the new law would give those not yet at 99 weeks an additional 13 months to consume their 99 week total benefit. Based on what I have read, it does not give everyone a three-year ride on the taxpayer’s nickel. Does anyone know that this is incorrect?

This is a win. Our economy cannot afford another liberal haymaker, which a massive tax hike would have done.

I’m talking about the unemployment benefits which eats into the government budget because it comes from taxpayers who still have a job in this cruddy economy. You want to focus on the small pixel in the image, I’m focused on the whole picture.

Really? You think not extending UI is more important than extending Bush tax rats? I've heard many, many conservatives and economists say it is absolutely VITAL that taxes not get raised. I haven't heard ANYONE say that about not extending UI. If you have an expert source that says otherwise, I'd love to see it. Again, the issue at hand is tax rates/tax cuts, not the size of government or the budget. Those battles will be fought another day.

Like I posted in #86, it’s a choice between chicken sh*t and big smelly cow chips.

What a joke you are flailing away at this ‘win’ by the GOP RINO elite that we Americans get to keep chicken sh*t on the menu. Wow that’s just so friggin awesome! Not!

Yeah, I don’t want big smelly cow chips on my plate but that doesn’t mean I should thump my chest and run a victory lap because I ‘won’ the right to have more chicken sh*t on my plate.

And like the poster you responded to said, the dumbass GOP RINO elites caved on spending hundreds of billions to the unemployed when they could have stood firm and let their new rabid Tea Party members bite Obama in his azzzzz!

Not extending UI will be beneficial to the future of this country. This country CANNOT afford another welfare entitlement program because it’s BROKE you jackwagon!
