Someone in the energy business told my cousin over a couple of beers that the thing that should scare America is an actual nuke going off NEAR the port of Houston.

He said that so much energy travels through Houston to the rest of the US... if Houston was rendered radioactive, it would devastate the US on the scale of One Second After.

With the NEAR word he was expressing that you don’t even need to get to customs. It’s the ships 1 mile out steaming into port that scare the people in the know.

Perhaps, but the most dangerous bombs reside in D.C., mainly in our Congress.

"It is easier to smuggle in a real nuke, not as much as a rad signature."
nothing personal, but you need to do some basic math...how many tons of lead does it take to conceal 1 pound of radioactive material....(hint, if you line a 10 foot wide by 10 foot high by 40 foot long trailer with enough lead to shield detection of a 1 foot cube of uranium. there is not a crane large enough in the world to pick it up, let alone load and unload it from a boat) get the hint....

Why not secure the borders? Follow the money. Who benefits?

The illegal drug industry benefits.

The agriculture industry benefits.

The Mexican Government benefits.

Everyone benefits except those evil and greedy American workers, whose jobs are taken, who are bathed in illegal drugs, and who pay taxes to support the excess human poverty from Mexico with their taxes.

To secure the borders, all those entities would need to give up their gravy.

"not gonna tell how i know this....not gonna tell what has personally happened to me...what I can say is this...there is no way, no how, that a nuke, dirty or otherwise, is gonna end up here in this country....the only way a dirty bomb is gonna go off here, is if the people that want to do that can get the crap here, without importing it...this is where you start your preventive measures.."

While it's true a uranium based bomb is relatively easy to detect...plutonium is a whole nuther program. Easily shielded and much more difficult to detect.

Of course they are MUCH more difficult to produce as well...and certainly traceable to source.

"It is never the one they find that worries me."

And yet they are denting the ones they have found....which worries me even more.

They were attacking the nuclear issue the length of the Mexican border at least five years ago.

Also - “dirty bombs” are not the same thing as nuclear bombs. Dirty bombs are a big deal, but they don’t hold a candle to a real nuke.

I’m fairly certain that I still don’t want one going off in my neighborhood.

Read my post PAL, I did not say rad material needs to come across the border, there is PLENTY easily available, here, in the US , now, today. Many consumer products have integral sources. Most of those are alpha emitters. Smoke detectors are a good example.

1) I am in TN.
2) My last time going through Border Patrol or Customs has no bearing, as I would not need to do that.

Take those easily obtained sources and make adevice, there you go. Pal.

Neither do I, but if I had a choice between a dirty bomb going off in my neighborhood or a real nuke doing the same, there would be no contest.
