Isn't the E-Verify system already in place (though needing improvement) and utilizing the existing Social Security data base?

Yes, and it's riddled with errors.

It was sold as being voluntary. But some of us have pointed out the obvious all along: It was always meant to become mandatory.

I'd remind everyone too that the Social Security numbering system was sold to the American people with the oft-repeated promise that it would never be used for anything but Social Security. What a laugh.

You’re much too concerned about government records, most of which have already been around for decades. There is no way to ever enforce immigration law without some records on all people in the US and some form of required ID.

The records and required IDs already exist and just need to be improved to provide more accurate verification of someone’s status in the US.
