Part of what may be going on here, legally speaking, is that Indiana changed their fetal harm laws after an incident a couple of years ago where a bank robber shot a pregnant teller in the stomach (she lost both children).

I understand, it’s just that I find it mindblowing that the law sees the death of a fetus as murder if life ends in any non-natural/non-accidental way... except for abortion.
It’s a complete disconnect and I cannot fathom how they justify it.
