Friday night on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 Degrees, the lead story was on a counseling clinic owned by presidential candidate Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and her husband. Cooper spoke of "allegations that the clinic engages in so-called reparative therapy," described by Cooper as "based on the theory that gay people can be turned into heterosexuals through a combination of prayer and willpower." The host's use of "so-called" set the stage for CNN political analyst Paul Begala to fulminate.
Using the word "crackpot" to characterize reparative therapy no fewer than nine times, Begala insisted Mrs. Bachmann should be interrogated:
BEGALA: She should be asked about this theory. She's a candidate for president. One out of 10 Americans is gay. She should be asked if she wants to lead a country where at least 10 percent of us are gay or lesbian, does she believe in this crackpot, bigoted theory that somehow there's something to be repaired in our brothers and sisters and sons and daughters who happen to be born gay?
Are "at least 10 percent" of Americans homosexual, to use a word that's not politically correct this season? In a word: no.
That figure, long used by activists, has been debunked repeatedly over the years. Obviously, no one can say with certainty what the actual numbers are, but one analysis that gathered data from four recent national and two state-level population-based surveys concluded that about 1.7 percent of the population are lesbian or gay. Another 1.8 percent of the population identify as bisexual.
The research came last April from the UCLA School of Law's Williams Institute, which defines itself as "a leading think tank dedicated to the field of sexual orientation and gender identity-related law and public policy."

Oh Crap!
Can the doc check me for this?
With the qualifier that I’m pretty sure the clients at this clinic were there voluntarily. Either exploring this therapy as an option for them or actively seeking it.
Regardless of what one thinks of providing people a choice of therapy, depending on what they want or think they may want to achieve, this faux outrage sounds an awful lot like when Planned Parenthood used to screech over the fact that Christian pregnancy centers counseled — gasp! — adoption! parenting! not killing your child!
Really?
The bad news is that it adds up to about 10,850,000 very loud, obnoxious and despicable perverts, for the most part.
If 10% of this country is gay, then 25% of NYC and over 50% of San Francisco would have to be gay just for the national average to work and for those to be any kind of gay mecca.
“Some of us are 0%. I don’t know about the rest of you.”
If 10% of me is gay, I’m pretty sure it’s not the fashion sense part.
Between Sarah CHOOSING not to kill her Downs baby and Michele offering to help FIX gay people, most libs would get ‘the vapors’ and die if we had a Palin/Bachmann ticket.
Wrong.
I don't allow small controlling twits to educate me about etiquette.
If one posts in a public forum they can always search if someone mentions him in a post.
I sure don't care.
What is ridiculous is asserting that about 10x as many people are homosexual as really are, then claiming that they are born that way and cannot change. I really don’t know whether most homosexuals can be cured, but I’m sure that homosexuality is abnormal and destructive. I do know that Christian missions serving another addicted population (e.g Teen Challenge, directed towards drug addicts) have a good record unmatched by secular programs. As a Christian, I believe that repentance, followed by appeal to the Savior, can overcome all obstacles, even the gates of Hell.
If Gays were Conservative I wonder how far they would back them? They have to find new oppressed groups continuously. What next?
Media and political analysts? Yeah, I'll buy that.
The rest of us? Not a chance in hell.
The simple fact is virtually every statistic you’ve heard over the last forty to fifty years which includes crime, violence, hunger, poverty, the homeless, SEXUAL ORIENTATION!, etc. are lies. Liberals are almost incapable of telling the truth about anything.

If you can't follow the thread and notice who pings to whom and actually understand the meaning of the comment made, then you may want to stay out of one Freeper's comment to another.

... In the latest episode, Latifah appears for the first time on-screen as television reporter Sharon Love. (The pun on the words "sharing love" is not lost on the viewer.) The plot thickens when Love admits to having slept with her best female friend in college (Dash's character, Val).
The admission is mistakenly taped, caught on camera and aired. In an effort to use the hiccup to her advantage in the media, she discovers that the press and the public are more interested in her as a personality because of -- not in spite of -- her being gay.
Contrary to her initial beliefs that the issue would be a death knell to her career, she finds even greater success. Love declares, "It turns out being gay is fabulous. My Twitter is all atwitter. I have six new Facebook fan pages. And for every sponsor that's fallen out, I've gotten two more. Who knew? Being gay is the new black."
CNN's Begala: 'At Least 10 Percent of Us Are Gay Or Lesbian'If you watch more than 5 minutes of TV you'd swear 10 percent of us are NOT gay or lesbian.
I hooked up a wireless router a few weeks ago. She can roam freely about the property, on line with her cool, sleek MacBook, breezing about the world and the Internet in perfect harmony. I'm chained to the desk with an eighty year old Dell patched together from parts I cannibalized from the recycle bin at work. The mouse is a rock with a string tied around it.
0.3 percent of the population does not equal one in 10
LIAR!
This story really pisses me off. I don’t care that much about gay issues one way or the other.
But scientific or psychologcal theories shouldnt be attacked for political reasons. Paul Begala knows absolutely nothing about gays and whether anyone benefits from the thereapy under discussion, yet he will call people “haters” for no good reason.
I guess every gay person must now remain gay, even if they express an interest in changing, that isnt allowed.
But if a straight perso wants to go gay,I’m sure that’s just fine.
He’s either referring to the media or Democrats. In either case, his estimate is way too low.
10 % of us? Ok I am not too sure about my left hand.
