The Next Biggest Boom Towns in the US [4 out of 8 are in Texas]
Forbes; Yahoo Finance ^ | July 11th, 2011 | Joel Kotkin

Posted on 08/15/2011 12:06:59 PM PDT by shield

What cities are best positioned to grow and prosper in the coming decade?

To determine the next boom towns in the U.S., Forbes, with the help of Mark Schill at the Praxis Strategy Group, took the 52 largest metro areas in the country (those with populations exceeding 1 million) and ranked them based on various data indicating past, present and future vitality.

We started with job growth, not only looking at performance over the past decade but also focusing on growth in the past two years, to account for the possible long-term effects of the Great Recession. That accounted for roughly one-third of the score. The other two-thirds were made up of a a broad range of demographic factors, all weighted equally. These included rates of family formation (percentage growth in children 5-17), growth in educated migration, population growth and, finally, a broad measurement of attractiveness to immigrants -- as places to settle, make money and start businesses.

I am also including a link to Forbes

Will Obama blame this on the Japanese tsunami?

Don’t think they really should be considered boom towns, think they’ve been in existence a year or two already.

All four have the same unemployment as the rest of the country. And millions of illegals to hold down wages. Someone is blowing smoke up something.

Okay, but there’s a problem: Washington, D.C. is on the list. As long as the seat of the Federal government which is home to no significant industry, is not a hub for the primary economy (agriculture, mining, forestry, fishing. . .), and besides government has most of its office space occupied by lobbyists, NGOs, other governments (embassies), rather than financial or other service providers, is a “boom town” both liberty and these United States are in trouble.

Actually, at least 80% of the illegals have left the Triangle. They used to be thick as cockroaches here.

Actually, this article was probably issued by the respective local real estate communities. We call it the “cycle” here:

1. Yankees fail in their home state (or Florida, for halfbacks);
2. Sell anything they have left and move to NC;
3. Get a temp job (which is all that’s really available here);
4. Suffer more stress; lose family and house
5. Return to their real home, wiser and poorer
6. We profit off their life savings

Actually, a local radio wag termed this the “Yankee Cycle.”
I see it every day. When every neighborhood has an annual turnover in home ownership of 25%-50% (including mine), there’s something going on.

/Oh, and Cisco announced last week 300-400 layoffs in RTP, and my contacts at IBM say that the suits are converting ALL positions in the park to temps, except for the 25% H1b’s that are already there.
//So, ya’ll come on down. Or economy needs your life savings!

Austin may be a boom town but it is full of Marxists. I lived in that hell-hole known as Houston for eight years and can tell you that one of the happiest times of my life was seeing Houston in my rear view mirror for the last time. The heat,humidity, traffic and crime are unbearable.

You people see? It is Rick Perry’s governing abilities that caused these booms. More and more news of how great Texas is improving compared to the rest of the nation will be coming out and we have none other than Rick Perry to thank for it. It will be Perry /Palin in 2012

I live in NW harris county...have been in Houston since ‘57...Houston has always been a great city...just don’t live in Houston proper today...then you’re mixed in with all the minorities. It has changed over the years...no doubt...but over all it is a GREAT CITY. Houston is the most air conditioned city in the world...so if you don’t like the weather stay inside. You can always find a job in Houston...even when the rest of the country is on the skids...so where do you live now...in Dallas?

You are right...I have been thinking a lot about a Perry/Palin Ticket...that just may be what they both have in mind. When Perry steps out of the WH...then Palin will step in as President.
