Cancer rates are not expected to rise as a result of the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan, UN scientists say.
The evacuation of thousands of people shortly after the accident in 2011 sharply lowered their exposure to radiation, a draft report concluded.

The findings of the draft report were presented by the UN Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (Unscear) in the Austrian capital, Vienna.

Unscear's report also stated that "no radiation-related deaths have been observed among nearly 25,000 workers involved at the accident site".

The loss of property in the vicinity of the plants is a tragedy. But worker safety and evacuation procedures worked.
Yeah....I guess those reports about some of the workers that were working in killer radiation zones were completely false and none of them died....or maybe long-term cancer isn’t what killed them.
It is too early to see the effects imo.

This is loose terminology.
Radworker safety incorporates a combination of dosage, time of exposure and shielding.
I can get a “killer” radiation dose by swallowing certain watch dials. OTOH, I can stand a foot away from a spent fuel rod if I have a foot of lead and leaded glass between, without any ill effects whatsoever.
And the United Nations is a good friend of nuclear power?
I’m thinking about long-term effects as well. Plus we’re looking at more than just cancer; for example, non-cancerous reproductive issues could arise as well.
Kind of soon to tell. These effects usually occur quite a few years after.

My dad, who was a WWII combat vet in the Med, Battle of Rome, Occupation Forces of Germany, and then to Korea etc. was detailed to the US Ivey series of H-bomb explosion tests. I remember early in my life when he finally came back and bringing all kinds of stuff back, among them were a dozen or more thick black plastic circular disks about he size of 5-7 stacked quarters added to his dog tags.
His medical difficulties didn't manifest themselves early, it took years. Had it not been for my mother getting copies of his orders from others in his unit where his name was also present, we could never have proven his medical disabilities were due to this service. The government fought tooth an nail, but the orders clinched it. They finally granted him full 100% disability in the late 60s. He died in 1971 age 57 while I was overseas. Frankly, I think we all know we aren't talking about watch dials and spent rods here.
And Fukushima is far from over. They are running out of storage tanks and have been asking for permission to dump the radiated water straight into the ocean. They are also contemplating freezing the ground to prevent water from the water table from flowing into the site. They have no idea how to do that and have been asking for help. And they still have to inject water into the core shells to prevent additional explosions.
An no you wont see any deaths related to Fukushima being reported because their corrupt government has put a lid on the situation.
One of the reasons of cancer is because the thyroid swells up and high metabolism cancer cells benefit from this “sexual” like spliting of the cells at a high rate. Drop the thyroid a notch or remove it, I believe, goes a long way to avoid cancer, maybe not slow tumor growths, but cancer most likely. It’s why hair falls when under chemo because chemo affects high metabolic hair cells.

I think there were two or three workers who perished as a result of mechanical hazards at the plant in the ensuing mess. Not radiation related, but things like falls from heights, being crushed, etc.
The worst accident of a reactor in the world, Chernobyl, has wildlife that is flourishing in the area. Where are the three-headed deer I was promised that would result? I want one of those puppies for my wall of mounts.
They lie so boldly now. You have to be so Stupid to believe this since it flies in the face of past experience and known scientific, and medical fact.
And how many people died as a result of Chernobyl. But wait! We have magic. Not one civilian is going to die because of Fukushima. Even though it is worse in some ways.
Anyone who puts forth information like that does not deserve to be heard.

The majority of victims at Chernobyl died of massive acute exposure to radiation at levels not seen outside the containment at Fukushima.
The levels of radiation that have escaped outside the containment at Fukushima are at levels we’ve already seen from above-ground weapons testing fallout. If the henny-pennies were at all accurate in their predictions of what comes about from radiation exposure and how long it affects the environment, I’d already be dead because I lived for more than a decade in central Nevada, and more to the point, farmed there, which involved ingesting large amounts of dust stirred from the ground in tillage operations.
So you see why I’m a skeptic of these projections.
