Heavens knows I’m no Enlgish professor but I think what the headline should read: “Japan says it may populate (or settle) disputed islands”

AP is obviously being allowed to debase the language. Perhaps in preparation for a heretofore unknown form of Newspeak?

Put a coast guard / naval / early warning radar station on the furthest island and put a small military compound with loading dock. Do it quietly until the build is finished.

Stake the flag gentlemen.

I agree. They shouldn’t have said a word, simply acted. And, it should fortify the place with turrets and launchers that can be controlled from hidden bunkers or from a remote site. But occupy it first!

Japan should take note that these islands look disturbingly similar to Iwo Jima.

Not a problem, everyone now knows what to do: Barry will wet his pants and Putin will solve the dispute.

I magnified the image of larger previouly uncharted island in the back and could make out some ship’s wreckage on the beach. Looks like a wooden cruise ship, possibly a tour boat. Can almost make out the name on the bow, looks like it says ‘Minnow’ or something. I should probably call Japanese Coasties and have it checked out.

That picture of that one island looked like a great place to:

- put a radar installation at the top of the rocky outcrop (flatten first)
- dig into the mountain for some bunkers,
- build the barraks and a helo pad on the flat area,
- build out a dock to allow resupply

In short, make it a maritime coast guard monitor and rescue opertion.

I have one basic reaction, F the Chicoms. Japan needs to rearm and get some nukes to pull this off.

I just bought a DVD collection of ALL the Gilligan’s Island seasons!

The first DVD had an unreleased version of the original pilot episode.

They had Gilligan and Skipper, of course, and the Howells, but the Professor was a much younger man AND his wife! And a ‘secretary’ instead of Ginger and Mary Ann................
