ORLANDO, Fla. - Many people signing up for health care in Florida through the Affordable Care Act have been shocked when they have to give proof of their credit score before they finish the process.

Anne Packham, one of many people licensed by the state to help people navigate the government's website, said on Tuesday that the credit check occurs so providers can make an educated decision about who to insure.

yep, it is called give grandma and grandpa no insurance coverage because of low credit score because grandma and grandpa lived on what they grew on the land and paid cash for everything else. Refuse them (grandma and grandpa) insurance after Medicare and, Medicaid are rolled into zer0care. Don't worry, there are no death panels. This is proved fact everyone. zer0 said so ... and we all know zer0 never lies.

Yes, officially applied as my own name (for real). Nothing about credit score.

I’m just waiting for Obama to come out and say, “I didn’t build that. Someone else made it happen.”

Instead of Bush’s fault...it was Pelosi’s fault!

On the other end of the spectrum is my 22 year old grandson. His mom-my daughter- died 11 years ago and so we paid his college tuition and for his pick-up with cash from his trust fund even though his dad wanted him to borrow money for both “to establish credit”. Told him there was plenty of time for that later and if he couldn’t pay cash for something he needed to save up until he could.

He finally has a pretty good job, saves 20 percent of his check and is reasonably thrifty. Of course he doesn’t have a wife or children yet. Will be interesting to see how credit rating issues affect him as he grows older.

Did you catch Obama’s speech at lunchtime today?

He remarked he’s “...been cutting our deficit by eliminating tax loopholes for the nation’s wealthiest taxpayers and lowest wage earners”....

How does cutting tax loopholes for the lowest wage earners help out the country?

Maybe it depends on the state...like you mentioned.

Anyway, if true, it’s one more nail in the ACA coffin.

What the heck do you expect when the Insurance Companies wrote the laws and our reps were denied the ability to even read them. This is Nazi-Insurance.

Do I have it about right, or is there more?

There is, no doubt, more.

yours is an excellent point. Maybe all democrats finally took pelousi’s lead and realized the only way out of this mess is for all the People to be unemployed. pelousi actually believes unemployment is good economics. zer0care must be good for morticians.

“One of BO’s most ardent supporters...”

Folks that are so full of hate like that seem to fit just fine in the BO crowd. The word “bitter” comes to mind.

Hi Laz!

We got an interesting notification today at my office. Our insurance renews 7/1, the broker sent a packet asking if we’d like to change our renewal date to 1/1, and including what the new plans would cost. (We’re on a grandfathered plan that will not be available come next renewal date.)

The new plan was the TX BCBS Silver, close to what we currently have, and the new rates are based on age. This is a group plan, and each individual in the plan would be charged a different rate based on age.

My rate (should we change the renewal date), as a single person, aged “mumble mumble”, would be $200 cheaper than what I am currently paying, but my boss and his family would pay $500 more. Per month. All for the same group plan.

This is a freaking nightmare. They haven’t specifically stated we need to do anything yet . . . but getting an insight into the new rates has certainly raised eyebrows. Oh and the newest thing, is that come 2014, if your insurance plan doesn’t have a dental option for children under 21 (OY), it will be included for you and the enrollees (those with children) will have to pay the extra premium, like it or not.

It gave me a huge headache today.

So the very poorest, who couldn’t afford health insurance in the first place, those for whose benefit this whole plan was ostensibly adopted, won’t be able to get insurance, OR the insurance they can get will be unaffordable with exorbitant premiums and deductibles. Such a deal!
