The author, based in part on his experience in both Yugoslavia and Zimbabwe, was convinced that multicultural societies are very prone to civil wars, and regardless of how wars start, they tend to quickly break down along the most obvious racial, ethnic or religious dividing lines (depending on the region). His book included a checklist of items that would indicate the fractures were getting worse.
I don't think the knock-out game was on that, but his predictions are looking more and more precocious all the time.
