Yes, sometimes it’s better to punch the bully in the face, before he knocks you out.
Canada was in on that too, bombing the serbs. We hit the wrong side, and I got very tired of being on the wrong side of a lot of conflicts. One of the big reasons why I left and became a glorious civilian heh.
Although, I’m realizing 5 years later that you can remove me from the army, but you can’t take the army out of me. Lots of folks around here probably just think I’m a hard arsed diehard lol.
I do agree there does need to be intervention in some places. I also think though as the west we did some things that were way out of line.
The Mexico situation is way out of control. I think the only real thing to do is to go in there, kick ass and take care of the people on that side of the border, sort that place right out.
The root problem has to be addressed, or soon it’ll be a gong show everywhere.
I want smart military spending. The Pentagon is a bottomless money pit. Weapons procurement and design is corporate welfare. Endless wars like Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan cost lives and treasure while destabilizing the world.
Unleashing the US military should leave the target looking like Tokyo on March 6 1945. That is how we influence hearts and minds.
Your local PD has much looser rules of engagement than a soldier or marine in a war zone. Make war or stay home. I am tired of watching the US military lose wars.
It’s not so much the “policing the world” business that I have a problem with, it’s the attempts at nation-building amongst savages. It isn’t working. How could it? It fails for the same reason that open borders will destroy this country. Culture matters, perhaps preeminently.
Libertarians, particularly those in the Libertarian Party, are having a difficult time distinguishing themselves from anarchists. Free trade and open borders will not bring about world peace. That is just the sort of Utopian thinking that runs rampant on the Left, merely from the other direction.
“Meddling” is not what Iraq was about, for conservatives. For Neocons, that’s exactly what it was. For conservatives, Saddam was a direct threat to us and allies. For Neocons, he was a threat to the NWO. Stosel is, perhaps unknowingly, being very slick here. The disaster in Iraq is not a validation of his philosophy any more than it validates Jeanine Gurofolo. It’s a steaming pile of postmodernism. It’s what happens when a country who’s in transition between prevailing paradigms goes to war.
I suppose I am a psycholibertarian, or maybe a conservapshycho. I’d like to have a conference with the Putin and tell him he can have the Ukraine, but now he needs to settle down. While conferencing, I’d nuke the following:
Riyahd
Mecca
Medina
Tehran
Qom
Bagdad
Followed by an announcement that all Muslims are to leave the territory of the Unityed States of America. “Welcome to 1492.”
Libertarians ignore reality/experience more than conservatives. They ignore the stink hole America would be if they got are their crap legalized.
How would you have kept Russia and China from conquering Europe and the world if we hadn’t been part of NATO?
In a world where an enemy can get around the world in a matter of minutes, a nation is not defended if they’re confined to their own borders.
What a pantload.
Foreign policy in 2014 should involve narrowly identifying our interests, then defending those interests.
Now that we’ve jumped the shark, you’re probably right. What I hate about Libertarians, the want to leave big government in tact, and legalize pot, prostitution, gambling, you name it.
The whole article is based on a Strawman... i.e. the only options are all out war, or do nothing.
That is why nobody will vote for the dumb bastards, they lie as much as liberals.
The real option is to stomp a bully’s ass and go home. No need to run their house or cure their problems. You warn them to stop what they are doing, and punish them severely if they don’t.
No reward for doing what you want, just punishment if they don’t do it!
Different age.
There is no ideological compulsion to defend Western Europe from regional enemies anymore. Today, Britain burns the corpses of unborn children for fuel, Germany seizes children for being homeschooled, and Denmark has made it mandatory for churches to conduct sodomite marriage.
Who would want to waste a drop of American blood defending that?
Cue up the LDS music.... (Libertarian Derangement Syndrome)
The continuum is from right to left.
A conservative is conservative on economics, national defense and social issues, a libertarian accepts the economics and then starts listing how far left he is.
Agreed.
The most troubling aspect of Libertarian foreign policy theory is the notion that we should allow Russia a free hand within its regional sphere of influence. Dumb idea both practically and morally: we shouldn’t abandon Poland (again) for instance ...
Bingo!
