Tests conducted by both the state and federal Environmental Protection Agency showed high levels of toxin levels in two neighborhoods in Toledo, Mayor D. Michael Collins said early Monday.
Instead of isolating the two neighborhoods, the Mayor said he'll keep the ban on drinking or using tap water in the entire city of Toledo until additional retests are completed. He declined to provide specifics on the name of neighborhoods in question and how high the toxin levels are.
"A majority of areas are satisfactory, but we have two areas of concern," he said at a news conference.
As many as 400,000 people were told not to consume, cook with or boil the tap water after a toxin called microcystin was found in the water supply Friday. Collins told reporters the advisories will remain in effect until further notice
Toledo's drinking water comes from Lake Erie, where a harmful algae bloom that causes microcystin has been growing.

I am listening to Wills & Snyder this morning and he is talking about how the lake is acutally 6F cooler than normal, how we had such a harsh winter (remember those polar vortexes we suffered through).
I discounted other possible scenario, but to maintain the ban on 400,000+ people, when only two neighborhoods remain affected, is very strange.
I think this is a phony baloney shutdown. We’ll know when the EPA suggests that Lake Erie should be aerated at a cost of 20 bazillion dollars.
Why aren’t that posting any numbers? I thnk the whole thing is BS.
Activated charcoal, which many municiple water treatment sytems use, has been shown to be effective in removing most algae toxins from water.
So, what gives here? If you have a carbon filter on your refrigerator, you should be good to go!
“So, what gives here? If you have a carbon filter on your refrigerator, you should be good to go! “
In talking to a state bureaucrat he always couched his answers in terms of, “Well, you can’t be blamed if...” What you see here is a bureaucrat who is afraid of blame. If he says all neighborhoods except X and Y are safe and somebody gets sick they’ll blame him. Government employees avoid blame by never doing anything, never taking a stand, never taking a chance, no matter how small. That way nothing is ever their fault.
Toledo’s water should be free. May be it’s a trial run for things to come everywhere. Dee twoit style well fare.
I don’t know. The mayor is hoping to not to have to call in FEMA?! Listening to radio, WTAM.
I agree, it is alarmist environmental bullying
Has anyone actually consumed the water? Have any pets consumed it?
This, and the talk of forcibly depopulating California... Well both could be legitimate, but I am not sure any more.

supposedly it’ll kill dogs, but not people.
Anybody know if a Berkey is effective for this?
Thanks for posting...
The article states that wind will not help.
Yet on local news they are saying that we are hoping for wind to create some “wave action”.
“One thing that will not solve the microcystin problem, the plant manager said, is a windy day, even if the wind blows out of the southwest.
While that theoretically might push the algae away from Oregons water intake as well as Toledos resulting wave action would churn up the water and send the algae and its toxin deeper into the water and thus closer to those intakes, Mr. Wagner said.”

This is some very serious S#!%. I just talk to a Berkey Water filter Rep and this is what she told me:
Nicole 15:49
At this time, we haven’t have data for Microcystin. It is a toxin produced by the bacteria. So even though the Black Berkey Elements can remove 99.9999% of bacteria, we cannot be certain it will remove this toxin. Therefore, we cannot recommend using the Berkey Elements to filter water contaminated with Microcystin.
If a Berkey Water Filter can’t make it fit to drink I wonder how it ever will every be fit to drink! Berkeys are used to make good drinkable water by many people working in third world hell holes were passable water is what we would call sludge. Looks to me that the excrement has collided with the rotating air circulator!

That’s some scary $hit! Will chlorine kill it? If so, the water can be filtered through the Berkey to remove the chlorine.
The mayor has announced an all clear - people can now use the water.
There are many great posts on the recent threads on this issue.

I would think chlorine doesn’t work either ...don’t most municipal plants put chlorine in the water to some extent?
Water Restrictions Lifted
http://www.13abc.com/story/26189174/water-restrictions-lifted
Effective immediately, customers of the City of Toledo Public Water system may now safely drink tap water. Consistent test results have shown microcystin no longer exceeds the recommended drinking water warning of 1 microgram per liter standard set by the World Health Organization in testing done by the City of Toledo, the Ohio EPA and the USEPA.
We are asking the public to conserve non-essential water usage to help our water treatment plant as it returns to full operation. Conservation efforts, such as refraining from watering grass, should continue until further notice.
Snip
For customers who have concerns regarding flushing of household water, if you have had no water use (including flushing toilets) you should flush the water lines in your home. The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department has created a document to assist in this process. If you have used water in your home (showering, washing hands) it is not necessary to flush your lines.
Did the Muslims find a way to infect the water supply?
