I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from ... cigarettes. This sentiment, expressed by Barack Obama in January and shared by millions, has once again been challenged this time by an academic review of 20-years worth of research.
The handiwork of Dr. Wayne Hall, a professor of addiction policy at King's College London and drug advisor for the World Health Organization, the review implicates cannabis in a whole host of health problems, but, in particular, in mental-health issues and addiction among habitual users especially teenagers.

It robs one of ambition.
Which is exactly why I gave it up 25+ years ago.
But I still think it should be legal.
The drug war is far more dangerous to liberty than any effects of marijuana. Given one or the other, I’d vote for legalizing it.
Maybe it would make the ebola virus chill......
I notice there are a lot of people over at Democratic Underground who are very pro-marijuana.
Draw your own conclusions.
My level of ambition or lack thereof is no one’s business but mine.
They better not make it legal. I sure don’t want to turn into a pothead.
What is more dangerous to Americans is the ‘war on drugs’. Totally illegal seizures under the 4 th Amendment have been found legal by the courts. Tens of millions is siphoned into state and federal coffers, along with the trampling of people’s rights, all in the name of stamping out drug use.
Enough is enough.
A 20 year old I know was recently diagnosed as schizophrenic here in Washington state, where recreational pot is legal. I was looking up info on the illness, and was surprised when I found the pot use-schizophrenia link in young users. It was on the NAMI website. I was disappointed that this info wasn’t shouted out when pot was on the ballot here. Oh, of course, you have to be 21.... Baloney. Choose between the drug war or teens and young adults developing schizophrenia? I don’t have to think about it after watching how this has devastated my friend’s family. Schizophrenia and other psychotic illnesses are nothing you would ever “choose” for anyone. Ever.
The political implications of those who promote addiction are dark enough.
But the commercial implications are just as dark.
It's easy to control those who have no self control.
Which is exactly the kind of customer that you want if you're selling something like pot.
I dont have to think about it after watching how this has devastated my friends family.
Chick non-think. SMFH
I know someone who never took illegal drugs or associated those who did, yet he lost $10,000 driving cross-country to the so-called law enforcement.
So does booze.
“It robs one of ambition.”
Maybe we should make it mandatory for politicians who are running for reelection.
More to the point. . . so does junk food if consumed too frequently. Should the government be in the business of regulating people’s ambition? I would think that freedom includes the right not to be ambitious.
That’s not to say that I favor smoking pot. I think it’s almost the stupidest form of recreation I can imagine. However, I also don’t favor wasting hundreds of billions of dollars (if not trillions) on a futile drug war that impinges on people’s rights in all kinds of ways, from no-knock raids to restrictions on carrying cash.
It’s illegal, but anyone who wants pot can still easily find a way to get it. If we are going to pay a fortune (in money and in liberty) for a tyrannical police state, at least we shouldn’t we at least demand some results from them?
> I sure dont want to turn into a pothead.
Is somebody holding a gun to your head?
There will be if a no knock SWAT warrant is “accidentally” served on your house a 2 AM someday.
I knew kids who smoked pot when I was young (40 years ago). Some, it only caused to lose ambition. Most of these gave it up in short time. A few became psychotic. Maybe they were kind of on the edge, but it certainly pushed them over the edge.
Outside of grown ups smoking in their own home, I can't think of any place else it should be legal. And of course it should remain illegal to sell it to minors.
Turned Obama into an Empty Shell
