Student loan defaults or settled deficiencies are also income.

"For one, hospitals must charge the uninsured the same price for emergency care as those with insurance are “generally billed,” whether they have private coverage, Medicare or Medicaid."

That could make some sense. We've all seen hospital bills where the "sticker" price was whittled down to a fraction of the original bill by the insurer. Uninsured emergency visitors don't have that advantage. (They say “generally billed”, not “generally paid” so there is still plenty of room for this to go completely awry.)

Run a few Children’s hospitals and St. Judes out of business because who will donate?

Just because someone is needy at the time of treatment does not nean they will be forever. Many times that mark on the credit that gets in the way of credit card, TV, or car once fortunes improve triggers payment to the provider. I guess its just another licence to steal for O’s people.

...who will donate?
______

Decent, generous people. There were decent, good hearted people long before there was such a thing as a government incentive.

If you stiff a hospital for $50,000 in medical bills, that’s $50,000 of income you owe taxes on.

Please point to me an indigent person, or a person who is eligible for Medicaid but doesn't have it say, who ever got an assessment from the IRS for written-off medical debt.

Uninsured emergency visitors don't have that advantage.

You can still negotiate the bill down. Or hire a patient advocate.

I don't think the IRS would use harsh measures to collect taxes owed.

I'm sure they'd agree, to be consistent.

Donate to hospitals forced to use donation money to treat illegal aliens?

The hospital should issue the former patient a 1099 form, for the services performed. Then lets see just how the government treats said indigent patient when they cannot pay taxes on their windfall. Said patient will end up in jail. Only the government can abuse the patients. The government hates the competition, as was said above.

The rules cover a number of Obamacare requirements. For one, hospitals must charge the uninsured the same price for emergency care as those with insurance are “generally billed,” whether they have private coverage, Medicare or Medicaid.

Billed is not the same as paid, I've seen bills negotiated down from several thousand dollars to a couple hundred. These are the results of complicated provider contracts. Are they saying the facilities will be restricted to payments insurers would normally pay?

Non-profit isn't an accurate description....

I've worked for some...

They make a profit to pay their employee's and debts...but what is left is divided up between the employees....supposedly.

I’m an American citizen and do not remember ever being asked for proof of citizenship to receive medical care. I don’t know about hospitals, but I donate to charities because it’s the right thing to do. I’d hate to injure good Americans who are in legitimate need in an attempt to avoid helping an illegal.

The solution is remove the illegals, not hurt a countrymen in need.

Like most of our national ills, the government enforcing the laws we had, rather than passing new ones would have gone a long way toward preventing the mess we are in.

So Obama keeps just changing all kinds of laws. Was this passed through congress and the Senate
then signed into Law? If not, then the lawsuits should fly! put that "bastard" in his place!
