While the world was watching the Academy Awards ceremony, the people of Mosul were watching a different show. They were horrified to see ISIS members burn the Mosul public library. Among the many thousands of books it housed, more than 8,000 rare old books and manuscripts were burned.

They have no appreciation for true history, therefor no interest in books of historical significance.
The more things of historical significance they destroy, the more they are able to replace history with their propaganda.

One could wish... but I think they are as earnest about burning this stuff as they are about bombing the Buddha statues or cutting people’s heads off or burning people to death.
