Women on 20s nominates [Republican] Harriet Tubman as Andrew Jackson’s successor on currency

A feminist group that wants to boot Andrew Jackson from the $20 bill has chosen a female hero to replace him — abolitionist Harriet Tubman.

On Tuesday morning, Women on 20s revealed the results of a 10-week poll for a possible Jackson replacement and emailed a petition — addressed to President Barack Obama — to the White House Council on Women and Girls.

By midday, the council’s chair, Valerie Jarrett, and executive director, Tina Tchen, responded, saying they “would like to continue the conversation.”

“We’re waiting for some kind of meeting with the White House, and I can tell you that we are already in conversation with them,” Susan Ades Stone, executive director for Women on 20s, said first to Yahoo News.

The nonprofit argues that the year 2020, the centennial of women’s suffrage, would be the perfect time to add a woman to our U.S. banknotes.

Tubman is most remembered for her role as a conductor along the Underground Railroad, a secret network of houses leading slaves to freedom in the North.

Born into slavery in Maryland sometime between 1820 and 1825, she fled to Philadelphia via the Underground Railroad in 1848.

I prefer they keep Jackson, but if they insist on putting a woman on the $20 bill, it should be Kate Upton.

"They are saving Moochelle for the three dollar bill."

Too late, Mikey's football bat boyfriend is already scheduled for that note.

The US Mint has tried pushing all kinds of dollar coins, and citizens just don’t want it.

Well...the could have done worse. I understand Eleanore Roosevelt was one of the choices.

Might as well put Art Linkletter on them - all the US fiat Fed-backed money is worth about as much as the old $100,000 Game of Life bills.

Why? What have you got against Harriet Tubman? Currency changes over time. No big deal. Relax. Have a drink. Don’t be so bitter.

I agree. Replacing a Democrat with a Republican is a wonderful idea.

Nothing against her she was a great American. I do have problems changing things just to change them. Jefferson was far greater in the grand scope of things.

Keep Jackson on the $20 bill, put Obama on the new $0.00 note, and the image of any of those others nominations on the alternative public currency issued by the Department of Agriculture, Food Stamps.

Yes, it is something of a disservice to Ms. Tubman to suggest this. I am sure she spent most of her life doing hard work for others and later, to support herself. This is my reply to those who want to deconstruct American History and Culture and replace it with Cultural Marxism and feminist idols of divisive leftist class warfare.

I really see no reason why they keep a dollar bill around anymore. The new coins (either the presidential or Sakakawea or both) are attractive enough and totally overcome the pitfalls of the previous designs-- the Susan B. Anthony dollar looks too much like a quarter, the Ike dollar of the traditional size was just too bulky to carry around. Plus Sakakawea deserves the honor and checks off the woman box. Of course, there may be freepers old enough to remember (or Numismatists) when Native Americans adorned our penny and nickle and actually bought something!

They could bring the Jefferson $2 bill back into circulation to fill that far right hand slot in the cashier's drawer. I have no objection to Harriet Tubman on a $20. She's certainly a better choice than the runner-up. But we ought to time any change to get rid of the $1 bill, bring the $2 bill back into circulation (along with the Sakakawea and presidential dollars) and maybe put Andrew Jackson on the nickle since Thomas Jefferson would be on the most widely circulating banknote.

If not that, then a simpler choice would be to replace U.S. Grant on the $50 bill since he ranks among the poorer presidents.

So for that reason you’re going to totally boycott the $20 bill?? “Here’s your change sir, 3 $20 bills.” “What? No, I’m sorry, I don’t accept $20 bills. I insist you give me 6 $10 bills.” “For what reason sir?” “I hate when things change.”

You’ll be popular.

Stop messing with the currency - the new bills already look like monopoly money.
