Ted Cruz vs. Donald Trump: Who's Stronger on Immigration?
American Thinker ^ | 08/24/2015 | Ricardo R. Galvan

Posted on 08/24/2015 7:03:20 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

An assumption made by a lot of conservatives ever since Trump's recent release of his immigration plan is that, though Trump is clearly creating the most buzz out of all the candidates, Ted Cruz essentially mirrors the bombastic billionaire in his immigration policies.  I saw a recent example of this on Limbaugh's program on August 17, where the talk radio host listed Trump and Cruz as being on the forefront of the anti-amnesty fight and, by implication, that both support the deportation of illegals in this country due to being equally strong on the subject.

I admit that I also had made this assumption previously, since I had forgotten entirely the specifics of Cruz's fight against the Gang of Eight bill.  It is easy to come to this conclusion, after all, when we hear Cruz seemingly lambasting Obama's executive amnesty for shielding illegal aliens from deportation.  However, after reviewing more of Cruz's statements on immigration, I remembered that this isn't really the case.

Technically, Rush is correct that both candidates oppose "amnesty," but how has Ted Cruz actually been defining amnesty all this time?  Cruz has consistently defined amnesty as interchangeable with "a pathway to citizenship."  A good example of this is in this interview with Shark Tank where Cruz frequently moves back and forth between saying he "opposes amnesty" and "opposes a pathway to citizenship," as if they have the same meaning.

It is important to watch Cruz's language in detail here, as it is clear that out of all the candidates, Cruz is the most careful and deliberate in how he uses words (most likely as a result of years of legal training and debate experience).

Cruz uses real terms. Trump uses emotional sales tactics without using those negative buzz words.
Cruz may be to honest and forthright to be president.

Go Cruz 2016

What does Trump say?
“We got to get rid of the bad ones and let the good ones back in.”

“We got to get rid of the bad ones and let the good ones back in.”

Liberal Donald Trump has fooled the masses into believing he will deport all ILLEGALs when the plan, according to him, is to deport them then bring them back. It's just foolish enough to fool the masses and clearly it has.

As I have said many times, never trust a liberal, and Donald Trump is a liberal.

Amnesty legalizes 12 to 20 million lawbreakers and gives them work permits to compete legally against American workers.

Cruz wants to almost triple the intake of guest workers annually from the current 640,000 annually. They also compete against American workers.

Cruz is bad on immigration and protecting American workers. We have the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years. Why bring in more foreign workers? Also, we bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants every year.

The difference: Trump is a lifelong liberal oligarch who’s saying what conservatives want to hear. Cruz is a lifelong conservative, Bible believing Christian who knows firsthand the fruits of full liberalism.

Cruz knows so much about it he married a far leftist and supports multiple policies that would doom this country to generations of leftist control.

For goodness sake what a load of cr*p we are getting from the Cruz bashers around here. OK, so the Donald says he is going to end birthright citizenship. The crowd goes wild cheering their head off. No one asks how in the h*ll is going to do that.

Levin has already paved the way. All we gotta do is walk down that road.

Cruz is a serious person who thinks.

So the "serious" response is to legalize illegals and to give empty promises about getting constitutional amendments? No thank you. It's the same GAME he's playing when he promises that legalized criminals can be stopped from getting citizenship just because he says so.

voters will be aghast knowing Cruz is a Washington Insider.

That must be why no one in the D.C. cartel will work with him. /s

It boils down to a matter of numbers. I want to know how many Trump proposes to admit annually. Cruz wants 1.5 million a year in terms of guest workers. Cruz wants to legalize 12 to 20 million lawbreakers. Cruz has proposed no change to legal immigration numbers.

Trump wants to reduce H-1B visas, no amnesty, and he wants to lower legal immigration back to historical levels, 195.000 a year vice the current 1.1 million a year..

Nice rationalization. But it is completely contradictory to your earlier question: "Why bring in more foreign workers?" Moreover, you admit you have no idea how many foreign workers liberal Donald Trump wants to bring in. So, that considered, why advocate for a plan to bring in more foreign workers when you admit you have no idea how many that will be them go on to ask the question "Why bring in more foreign workers?" when you appear to be resigned to the fact that that is exactly what Donald Trump is going to do?

As for amnesty, Ted Cruz says he is “unequivocally opposed to amnesty” (his exact words) at the 4:27 mark in this video dated May 30, 2015.

Cruz wants to almost triple the intake of guest workers annually from the current 640,000 annually. They also compete against American workers.

As President, Cruz would not be king. What he proposes is a legal process Congress could reject. Amnesty legitimizes an illegal process. So the two are so substantively different in so many attributes that, just because they share one (displacing American workers), it is not a legitimate parallel.

In supporting the H1-b increase, Cruz is acting on what he believes is true information, believing that there is a shortage of STEM workers when there is not. Fixing a belief in false information is easy... if the candidate is honest. So let's fix that and see what he does. For him to see that he has been systematically misled, it's going to take more than a few examples.

Post number 6 for the whole truth rather than the agenda.

The truth is that Trump tells his audiences whatever he knows they want to hear, what he plans to do notwithstanding.

I’m deliberately vague when I talk to campaign workers for precisely that reason. I want to hear what a candidate really thinks and not what he thinks I want to hear.

I’m convinced Cruz is being deceptive in his fiddling around with the definition for amnesty, his worthless promise that he can legalize these illegals and not give them citizenship, and his worthless opposition to birthright citizenship which he, again, defines as being within the 14th amendment.

It’s time to wonder whether Cruz agrees more with his wife than he has let on.

Don't know.

...his worthless promise that he can legalize these illegals and not give them citizenship,...

The usual "guest worker" meme.

...and his worthless opposition to birthright citizenship which he, again, defines as being within the 14th amendment.

Haven't seen that, have seen the opposite. It is very few who properly understand the Citizenship Clause. I first posted a proper interpretation from the Slaughterhouse Cases here on FR in 2003.

It’s time to wonder whether Cruz agrees more with his wife than he has let on.

Wonder, yes. Conclude, not yet.

"As long as Trump does not renege on any part of his plan,"

LOL...wow

Because he's never done that, right? Nah! He's never flip-flopped on anything or been caught in lies...over...and over...and over.

The fact that you actually believe this shyster's promises is nothing short of amazing. I never knew---sincerely, I didn't---that conservatives could be so gullible.
