The night skies in Arizona are spectacular. I had to pull off the road one night outside Needles just to look at the stars. It’s incredible what is unviewable in most of the US at night.
My old boss and I did the A51/Rachel trip once from Vegas. The Little Alie’inn had a great burger and fries. Lots of cool stuff in their mini museum there.
The road is perfect for a Bugatti...unfortunately we were in a Toyota 4x4 ;)

Did that too. We managed to drive 2,500 miles in two weeks (thank goodness for "unlimited miles"). One time, we were driving south on 93 after visiting Rachel. We were somewhere near Coyote Springs, the only car on the road, when my wife suddenly yelled "Oh, my GOD!" and the whole car shook! I looked out my window to see a fighter jet zooming away.
Yep, he buzzed us. :-)
I remember flying in the days before commercial jets and being able to see car headlights at night when we were at altitude. Other than the E-ticket ride at takeoff, that’s what struck me most about jet flight - the cruising altitude.
I read somewhere that if you assigned every person in the world one square yard, the total space occupied would be about 45 square miles.

And in the US, most people live in big metro areas. So media in the biggest metro areas think that everyone is just like their gentrified inner city neighbors.
They think that because people beside them are of different races and gender identities that everyone is like that. Those who think they have diversity often have the least diversity.
Forty-five square miles is 139,392,000 square miles, so, no.
Maybe they meant the population of the US.

We went camping one December in the Mojave Desert near the California/Nevada border. It got down to about 15 degrees that night; we were staying in a canvas-topped tent with a cement floor and a pot-bellied stove for heat.
Oh, did I tell you we'd forgotten to feed the stove before going to bed? :-)
Round about 2:00-3:00, I volunteered to go outside to get more wood. Dayum! The desert's cold in the winter! Anyway, the sky was awesome.
One thing that was interesting, though. Looking to the northeast, in that beautiful night scene, I could still see the lights of the Nevada casinos; couldn't hear the slot machines, though [chuckle].
That would be the Nome Motel 6.

I remember one book called "The Population Bomb". This guy was so sure that we were doomed. I think he's still around today and now he hangs out with Al Gore.
Anyway, when I was 12 years old, I took my first plane trip. It was 1975. This was a time when people were concerned about all the deforestation and how those evil lumberjacks were cutting down all the trees. So I get a window seat and as soon as we left Boston, I saw nothing but trees all the way to Atlanta with the occasional ribbon of highway or a few squares of farmland.
