Map: The Battle for Aleppo – the “Mother of all battles”
SouthFront (Russian) ^ | 02.02.2016 | Peto Lucem

On February 1, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched their long awaited offensive in the northern Aleppo countryside... (The Syrian Arab Army) SAA would also be able to cut the last supply routes running from the Turkish Border south towards Aleppo, Syria’s largest city and the country’s former commercial hub.

The battle’s scale and importance led observers to name the struggle for Aleppo, The mother of all Battles. Both war parties know the side which captures Aleppo wins more than just a city. This side will win Syria’s north and therefore – most probably – the war.

It appears that the major city of Aleppo is now completely encircled (as of today, 2 Feb) by the Assad Regime's forces, and that increased air and ground attacks are underway against the main roads and cities of the last main corridor (Azaz, Manbij, al Bab) for Turkish supply to ISIS and other rebel groups.

Turkish forces have cleared a route for invasion around Jarabulus, and it is coming down to crunch time for Turkey to either invade Northern Syria, or watch as all of their surrogates are starved out and eventually overrun. And probably watch the Kurds spread across the corridor to link up with Afrin, forming a continuous hostile Kurdish buffer zone along the Turkish border.

This source looks like a Russian Front of some sort, like RT, so take it with a grain of salt. These developments are credible and have been expected.

“and it is coming down to crunch time for Turkey to either invade Northern Syria, or watch as all of their surrogates are starved out and eventually overrun.”

They are for the rebels. They just say it openly.

Yes, these are strange times - and there is a great danger of a wider war. Turkey would love to drag NATO into it.

It’s coming down to the Battle of the Five Armies and Bilbo is nowhere in sight.

“Another Mother of all Battles. I thought Saddam copyrighted that.”

Propagandists need some help sometimes, to whip up the desired enthusiasm. It is hard to be creative every day on cue...

I hope Assad wins against these Wahhabi bastards. He never did a thing to this country. BTW did you know that contrary to the press, that ISIS is still in control of over 50% of Ramadi? You didn’t know that did you? This is because the Iraqi Shiites can’t fight. They are chicken $hiz. But as long as we have nukes and closed borders— I don’t care.

“Who are the yellow flags?”

Hizbullah, or other Shi’ite militias (e.g. from Iraq or formed with Afghan recruits).

The Yellow, Red and Green Tricolor flags are the Kurds.

I believe that they have also just cut the main road to Aleppo from Turkey, just South of Azaz.

This is the Russians’ kind of war. Front lines, with bulges and pockets to pinch off.

Aren’t the Iranians involved here?

I thought Iran was doing some of the ground work in Syria.
