Sen. Mark Kirk: Scalia replacement must 'bridge differences'
Chicago Sun Times ^ | February 22, 2016 | Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL)

Posted on 02/22/2016 12:37:28 PM PST by C19fan

As the paramedic held my hand, I worried that might be the last human I would ever touch. I was 52 years old and in the middle of a severe stroke. The ambulance ride that day flashed by as I focused on that paramedic and my hand, all the while my stroke intensified.

More than a week later, I regained consciousness only to face more surgeries and a long, grueling regimen of rehabilitation.

A bridge over what? A strict reading of the Constitution and, well, whatever you want it to mean?

There are people that want the Constitution to be even more severe, so wouldn’t the compromise be to just interpret the document as it is?

Barf indeed: Sandra Day O’Connor was sold as a “conservative” and she was only very slightly to the right of a certain “wise latina woman”...

With this article, Kirk reveals that HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT A JUDGE IS.

Kirk’s well-documented health problems are relevant to this HOW, exactly?

Kirk is up for reelection, and is a Republican Senator from Illinois. Think about that for a second.

We have to be smart about this, or we are going to lose the Senate and Obama's nominee will be confirmed anyway. And Kirk is probably as vulnerable as it gets. Lose him, and he's replaced by a liberal Democrat.

I have no problem with Kirk doing this. It's an ambiguous statement, meaningless in substance, that will make it tougher for his opponent to characterize him as an extremist or obstructionist. As long as Kirk isn't a deciding vote to confirm, then screw it.

Once Obama is nominated, Senate Republicans need to get the lay of the land within the Senate vote wise, then come up with a proper delaying strategy that makes sure there is no confirmation, but takes into that vulnerable Senators may need a bit of wiggle room. As long as McConnell freezes it, some vulnerable Republicans making vague statements of bipartisanship won't hurt anything.

It may not be very satisfying, but it's going to be a whole lot worse if we lose the Senate. Remember, of the 34 Senate seats up for election in November, only 10 are held by Democrats -- 24 are held by Republicans. It's only 54-46 right now so, it is going to be a squeaker.

Fight smart, not just hard.

Any of the four leftists on the court could well skip any hearings and phone in their decisions.

Kirk’s bowing to Obama will not work, he will still lose his election in November. Unfortunately, all of his Dem opponents appear to be significantly worse.

Exactly. Unfortunately, he’s about the least worst they can possibly elect in the People’s Republic of Illinois these days.

Exactly. Burn him, and his replacement is guaranteed to be much, much worse.

Will somebody please remind me what Supreme Court justices do for a living? I heard a silly rumor that their job was to interpret the Constitution as the Founding States had decided for it to be understood in order to decide cases. /sarc

So if anyone needed an explanation why Kirk is going to be a one-term Senator then this should do it.

Bingo. Building bridges to the leftists will destroy our country. Build walls instead.

Build bridges, reach across the aisle, nonpartisan, make deals, why can’t we all just get along... GARBAGE!!!

Whatever happened to standing up for your principles! Whatever happened to believing in something and not compromising!!

Mr. politician, Mr. Supreme Court judge...get that conciliatory smirk off of your bloated face and stand firm on something once in your life!

“Centrist” Supreme Court justices always drift left over time. All “centrist” nominations should be DOA.

The most you can say for Kirk is that if he didn’t hold that Senate seat, some raging Socialist Lib would.

It’s funny how the bridges all end up moving
traffic from right to left, but never the other way.

“Bridge differences”: is that in the job description of a Supreme Court Justice?
