I used to read it. At one time it was a pretty good magazine with a lot of military history and weapon reviews.
They published two of my articles about my over the fence trips into Burma in 84,85 and 86 to report on the dozen or so hill tribes fighting a guerrilla war against Rangoon.
I photographed and wrote about the soldiers of the Karen, Karenni, Mon, Pao, Shan, Wa, Arakhan,Kachin and even a Muslim group all, fighting a guerrilla war of survival against the brutal Ne Win dictatorship in Rangoon.
It was a great adventure until I caught a drug resistant strain of Malaria and barely made it out of there alive.
...will fade away to digital only starting in April.
I wonder what ever became of that outfit.
“I wonder what ever became of that outfit.”
Moved on, I guess.

It was an interesting read while it lasted.
He's now the automatic weapons editor for The Firearms News.
Okay Redleg, this one's for you. Splash, out.
My understanding was that they're not quitting publication but switching to an all-electronic format instead of a primarily hard-copy print magazine.
They've run a few of my photos over the years and published two of my letters, one calling them out on a very slight misstatement.
As much as I usually dislike editors in general, Foreign Affairs editor Jim Pate was always a class act, and treated me, my photos, and that which I'd written, very well.
Thanks. Nice guy but haven’t seen him in about 25 years!!!
I do not accept your premise. I met Tony Poe.
If you didn't know: he's the one Marlon Brando's *Colonel Kurtz* character was very loosely modeled after for trhe film Apocalypse Now.
All I know about any of them is what I have read. He does sound like a great man.
My Father briefly met Bull Simons in DeFuniak Springs. His Son had a small gun and gunsmiths shop in DeFuniak but it was not doing well and closed before too long. I did do a little trading with him.
yeah, Sometimes editors can butcher your writing,
While I rejected reading Penthouse and Playboy a very long time ago, thank you for that pic.
That isn’t a real Penthouse cover. It is from the movie ‘Stripes’. She does grace the cover well though.
I know, that pic and the cover of the “Nome News” with John Larroquette looking absolutely miserable are my favorite parts of the end.
I was bitterly disappointed when I enlisted and found that real MP’s didn’t look like Ms. Soles or Sean Young.
***"Yeah," he said, "Sometimes editors can butcher your writing."***
Once you have met one of his sort, it becomes real easy to recognize the others like him.

I never met him, but knew a couple of the fellas involved with the Son Tay job. Fairly regular guys, but with a little something extra added.
