"There's nothing short of Trump shooting my daughter in the street and my grandchildren -- there is nothing and nobody that's going to dissuade me from voting for Trump," Ms. Butler said.

Yeah, the GOPe is in denial about the strength of support for Trump, and they ignore it at their own risk.

A large portion of the electorate feel totally disenfranchised, and they see Trump as their way out of the political netherworld.

Calling in the last two GOPe losers (McCain and Romney) will not stop the landslide, only add to it.

The simple fact is this - most Conservatives are going to vote against Hillary Clinton no matter what - and they do not want big government people lecturing them on who to vote for.

I know many here will say that they are not going to vote for ‘so-and-so’ - but most of us will support the party’s choice for nominee. So, I plan to vote for whomever becomes the nominee and I resent any movement which interferes with the votes of ordinary citizens who are ‘in fly-over country’.

I truly believe that folks in the Washington to NY to Boston corridor have no idea how insulting they are to the rest of us.

It is sort in the same vein as eastern USA folks thinking that we live where the Indians are still riding around on horses wearing their feathers in their headbands. hey really ought to get around a bit more.

[My fear is Donald popped in to protect the status quo from Cruz.]

Wishful thinking. But in reality, Cruz was barely a blip on the radar last year. Only favored by far right Tea Party voters.

This was supposed to be Jeb’s coronation for the get go. Cruz wouldn’t even have made it to Iowa if Trump didn’t come in and demolish the top GOPe’s (Jeb, Walker, Perry).

That’s the only reason Cruz is even part of the conversation anymore. And Cruz thanks Trump with a knidea in the back.

“Cruz is the best since Reagan”

Cruz and his wife have too many CFR ties and Doner money. Not to mention, he lies constantly. Trump may give token names to his opponents. He never tells lies. He fights back when lied about.

I, and we all like a fighter. We haven’t had one since Reagan.

Ryan says he’s not interested...but what happens when the party bigs put him in the formerly smoke-filled room and prevail upon him to do what must be done, especially after spending tens of millions on him and Romney in 2012. They’ll tell him “you owe us”, and I bet he will cave if they do. Romney is old, and old news - Ryan at least is younger and more positively perceived.

I don’t trust the GOPe.

rank-and-file Republicans expressed mystification, dismissal and contempt regarding the instructions that their party's most high-profile leaders were urgently handing down to them:

Romney merely stiffened my resolve, and my resolve was very stiff already. Now, let's talk about hands! :)

Cruz is Reagan without the charm. Reagan could never have done it in 1980 if he didn’t connect with people. Cruz can’t connect. And lately, he has been doing some things that undermine his conservative credentials, by supporting the GOPe in their quest to continue to control the party so that they can go along with the Democrats.

The establishment (read the Bush family) is being repudiated.

Society changes. This has been a long time coming, but now we are moving on. We just needed a standard bearer.

And, no, it isn’t Ted. Ted, while conservative, is hearkening to the past and I don’t think people want to look that way right now. You have to get through Obama, Bush 43, Clinton and Bush 41 to get back to Reagan. That’s a lot of bullshit to wade through to get to the truth of what Reagan stood for, or what we think he stood for looking back on it.

It is time to reset the landscape and redefine things. Trump represents the best opportunity to do that because he will have a mandate from the people - across the spectrum.

This is all good for us. I know it is scary for some and others with a personal attachment to a candidate feel like their guy is being cheated or whatever. Relax. America is awake now for the first time in decades.

The Revolution is on.

Gumdrop - it is exactly that. They are insulting to the whole rest of the country, speaking down to us like we are idiots. It is exactly like the northeasterners thinking the Westerners are rubes. I find it infuriating. I will support Trump if it comes to that, and I like his leadership, but I prefer Cruz.

Haven’t trusted them since Reagan...And even then, 95% of that trust was to Reagan himself....

We have a number of collective interests generally called the "common good" for which we pay taxes and agree to submit to a government. But the govenment left us, all of us, long ago ignoring the "common good." And so we look for a new arrangement, the sworn rank and file of no established order.

A very astute observation. But it is one lost on those who believe in the illusion of temporal power...

Trump is not a conservative, liberal, republican, or democrat...Trump is a successful businessman...He is in this because he sees what has happened to our country...His businesses will suffer right along with the rest of us...he isn’t doing this for power (he has that) he isn’t doing this because he wanted to be a politician...

he is doing this because he loves his country and his businesses...he knows the only way to raise the country back up is to eliminate the staus quo...Eliminate the grip the professional politicians have on government...

He, like most all smart businessmen, will bring in advisors that think instead of being “yes men”...

The GOPe and the Dems are scared to death that they are about to lose their power and gravy train...How many professional politicians have you heard sy things before an election and then you never hear from them again until the next election when they say the same damn things over again???

One of the reasons Romney lost the presidential election was his fear of losing independents and moderates if he attacked Obama. But he attacks Trump with some heat, leaving one to ask, "Who is he NOT so afraid of offending?"

Well, that would the Trump supporters and the anti-GOPe. And why is he not afraid to offend them? Because he thinks their vote is the property of the GOPe and they are wielding it from ignorance. Don't worry about attacking the voters' choice, they aren't going anywhere. It's the arrogant high-handedness of those-who-know-better and it comes off as patrician as the New Yorker magazine's Eustace Tilley.
