Donald Trump Suits And Ties Are Made in China by Heather Long March 8, 2016 Donald Trump blasts companies like Ford and Apple for manufacturing products outside the United States. He even threatened to stop eating Oreo cookies after he learned some production was moving to Mexico. But Trump does the same thing.
Many of his products are made outside the United States. Most Donald J. Trump ties are made in China. Some Donald J. Trump suits are also made in China.
Donald J. Trump signature men's dress shirts are made in China, Bangladesh or "imported," meaning they were made abroad.
And it's not just Donald's products. Harvard professor and trade expert Robert Lawrence analyzed over 800 items in the Ivanka Trump fashion line. There are shoes, dresses, purses and scarves. All are "imported."
The top five countries that America imports clothing from are China (by far the leader), India, Vietnam, Pakistan and Mexico. Related: Trump tower's Chinese investors buy a path to U.S. citizenship
"In a recent debate Marco Rubio mentioned ties. But the ties made in China are just the tip of the iceberg," says Lawrence, who served on President Bill Clinton's Council of Economic Advisers.
Lawrence found that none of Ivanka Trump's clothing line appears to be made exclusively in the United States and 354 items are listed as made in China. Trump doesn't dispute this.
"I talk about my ties in speeches. I'm open. I say my ties many times are made in China," Trump told CNN's Jake Tapper in July.
"It's very hard to have apparel made in this country," Trump said.

Oh, sure, yeah.
He’s only having stuff made overseas to make the point we need to change the rules.
I’m sure he didn’t accept a penny since it was done as a matter of principle.
How far can you people twist to defend this?
Then why does Trump keep claiming he is going to punish Ford for making cars in Mexico, or punish other companies with tariffs for making products in China? And why do his supporters agree with him?
Not hard to find if willing to look.

Oh, good, yeah.
Where is my clothing made?
Totally explains why Donald Trump says one thing and does another.
My shoes were made in England. Would you believe that?
Don’t be ridiculous. It’s almost impossible to find clothes made in this country. At one time, there were clothing factories all over. But after the politicians imposed “free trade” laws, just about all of them shut down.
That is hardly Trump’s fault. People may want to buy American, but you just can’t do it.
What ever will we do ???
I've got the vapors; clutching my pearls !
Please, I beg you, tell me that’s photoshopped.
“This is the guy who says he wants to bring business back to America.”
One must be competitive. It costs too much here. Too many regs, etc., etc.. No point having a business that isn’t price competitive. You wouldn’t sell enough to stay in business. That’s a problem Trump wants to fix.
The rest of us are not running for President against outsourcing.
Trump knows why it is so hard to be Made in Obummer’s America.
If we nominate Trump, we are voting for Hillary.
That’s what I’m asking, LOL. Trump and Sanders have the same liberal big government approach to trade.
You have a valid point. Noted.
Oh, excellent.
Divert to a lie about Cruz and the Bush family.
It doesn’t matter where Trump’s stuff is made ...
It matters where Trump makes his stuff.
Big ole phony.
Wave the flag as his business burns down.
“Theres nothing stupid about our trade. In REAL economic terms, it is much cheaper to produce products in a third world country. Therefore theres no reason for us not to do it. We can lower the price of many products and devote our resources to doing more innovative things.”
If you actually learned economics rather than libertarian bullshit you would know that it is not truly cheaper to produce overseas other than a combination of factors which are artificially put in place that act as barriers to our employers. Taxation, regulation and in many cases tariffs against our exports all work to deprive the US of business opportunity and jobs that sensible trade deals along with regulatory change and taxation change would result in a robust economy...that is exactly what Trump proposes.
We have lost millions of jobs and thousands of businesses to stupid trade agreements where our products are taxed and made to be more expensive via regulation to compete and where our employers cannot compete overseas because the other side of the “free trade” agreement who is not practicing free trade has tariffs and regulations raising the costs for our businesses.
Oh, please.
These torturous defenses of Trump saying one thing and doing another.
He HAD to hire illegals...Americans wouldn’t work for low wages.
He HAD to donate to democrats and associate with the mob...cost of doing business in New York, dontcha know.
Have bought ties from a couple of them, although I admit I have also bought ties cheap directly from China.
Because it just is difficult to impossible to make some things here. It is simply not economically feasible. The cost is too high to be able to sell the product. This is the result of decades and decades of bad decisions. I am not in any way a proponent of an isolationist philosophy where we only make and buy things in the borders. It’s an international economy, and we want companies like coke and apple and gm selling in China and India, Latin America and Europe. We’ve accumulated great wealth in this country selling to those countries. We also have to expect some thing imported here. Textile manufacturing has been a huge loss to many areas of the country because it simply doesn’t work to do it here. There are plenty of products that makes sense to build in China or India. We need to reset our costs of labor, taxation, healthcare/benefit costs and union drag on our own business and manufacturing to move the balance back to where more things can be made domestically. Each decision is a unique case, such as the Carrier move from IN to Mexico. We need to make costs to operate here more reasonable so more companies can make the decision to build here and no elsewhere. In the meantime, some industries simply are best served with foreign manufacturing.
