Cruz: I'm fine with contested convention
The Hill ^ | 03-09-2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Ted Cruz says he would have no problem with a contested convention over the summer in the event neither he nor Donald Trump secures enough delegates before then to lock up the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump suggested Wednesday morning on "Fox and Friends" that Cruz was making the statement "because he had such a bad night last night."

Cruz hates the establishment so much he hired JEB’s brother. That makes sense. /s
It makes more sense that the whole McConnell is a liar thing was done to give the 17 year GOPe insider Cruz some outsider credibility. I do not think that McConnell really mixed that too much.

I just looked that up. Where are you getting the information? It looks like Romney had close to 1,500 delegates going in to the convention. Needed 1,144.

If they pick the person with the most delegates, then I won’t go to war.

If they do anything other than that, war.

We’ll see what happens.

here is what Cruz stated in NH

“Let me encourage other members of the establishment: Keep supporting Donald Trump because every time you do it, what it is doing is telling conservatives all over the country is where you stand and who stands with you”.
- Ted Cruz, New Hampshire stump speech

Seems now those words for Cruz have gone out the window. Lets see how the Cruz votes will not wriggle this one too.

“It’s the only way you and the GOPe can win.”
_____________________________________________

Nice try! Cruz is not GOPe...he is anti-establishment...the Trump folks say that Cruz can’t be elected because everyone in the Senate and GOPe hates him...now he’s part of the GOPe because some of the GOPe are moving towards him...You Can’t Have It Both Ways!

Cruz is still working toward winning the nomination outright, but is simply saying that if we happen to have a “contested” convention with no candidate reaching 1,237 votes before the first ballot, he’ll deal with it then. If Rubio and Kasich remain in the race, this could be the outcome. If they drop out after March 15th, then national polls suggest that Cruz could win in many of the remaining contests.

There will still be about 20 states remaining after March 15th...11 of these states have Closed primaries, favoring Cruz....also, 8 states will have proportional allocation of delegates, so Cruz and others would continue to accumulate delegates at some level...

Much depends on March 15th...I believe Trump is now a lock for Florida, given the shrinking Little Marco candidacy...If Trump wins Fl & Ohio, I think the game is pretty much over except the counting...However, if Kasich wins his home state, Trump will be denied 66 delegates and will lose some momentum ...this situation could lead to a “contested” convention...

Then, the horse trading begins and it all depends on the delegate count. Trump will want to win on the first ballot because if he falls short of 1,237, he could lose control of the nomination. So, I would expect him to dust off his best seller and make a deal with one of the remaining candidates before the convention, likely offering the VP slot in exchange for delegate support. Take your pick...all three candidates have pluses and minuses for Trump...the only one has has not gashed terribly yet is Kasich...that would be my bet!

I hope so. The party is going to throw everything they have at him. I must say....he's strong. I would have strangled someone by now.

The crude stuff...I must say....he didn't start it.

I think of Chef Ramsey. Indeed, he's a leader with a swift tongue. Whatever.

There's Hillary with her f'n Jew, Biden whispering "This is a big f'n deal in Obuma's ear. Stop pretending everyone is offended. They're surprised....not offended....except for the church lady. And if you think your children haven't heard those words....you're really lying to yourself.

It is actually comforting to hear that voice.

Trump will achieve the most delegates earned by winning the votes of the people.

Cruz could end up with the most delegates, TODAY, if Kasich and Rubio dropped out and endorsed Cruz. This would put Cruz with roughly 100 more delegates than Trump, presently.

But they don’t want to do that just yet. What they’ll do is, they’ll hang on until AFTER Ohio and Florida, hoping Kasich and Rubio can best Trump in their home states. Since Rubio and Kasich have zero chance of winning at this point, they will then drop out and endorse Cruz, and he will get their delegates despite not getting the votes of the American people to earn them.

This is the plan the GOPe is executing now. You probably don’t care, because you want Cruz to win. That’s fine, but it remains to be seen if even that will be enough to stop Trump. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Trump will most likely not reach 1,237 delegates. That will lead to a CONTESTED convention. You don’t win with a plurality of delegates. Never have.

Well I guess then you have a problem with me.

If Trump does not go into the convention with greater than 50% of the delegates, he has not yet earned the nomination, pure and simple. In that scenario, the fact will be that most people did not want him.

I believe nine out of 10 Rubio supporters would go to Cruz before Trump. Not sure about Kasich delegates but that is what the second and subsequent ballots are for. Let Trump make his case that he is the best man for the Republican Party to the uncommitted delegates and let Cruz make his.

If Trump wins, I will support him. If Cruz wins I hope you will support him. If the the GOPe tries to pull a fast one and pick someone other than Trump or Cruz, I will support Trump’s (and I hope Cruz) third party bid. It would be the perfect way to get a third party started to bypass the Uniparty we have now.
