Cruz: "It is striking that the day after Donald Trump called for America weakening NATO withdrawing from NATO we see Brussels, where NATO is headquartered, the subject of a radical Islamist terrorist attack."

Cruz supporters: "How dare you say Cruz is blaming Trump for Brussels? Cruz said no such thing."

In his own words.

“Well, I will say, it is striking that the day after Donald Trump called for America weakening NATO withdrawing from NATO we see Brussels, where NATO is headquartered, the subject of a radical Islamist terrorist attack. Donald Trump is wrong that America should withdraw from the world and abandon our allies. Donald Trump is wrong that America should retreat from Europe, retreat from NATO, hand Putin a major victory and while he’s at it, hand ISIS a major victory.”

In the words of FReeper TexasFreeper2009 who said it better than I could,

“Cruz is wrong on this and Trump is right.

We have been propping up Europe with US tax payer dollars for decades.

This has allowed Europe to cut it’s military budgets to almost nothing and has prolonged the inevitable collapse of these socialist states that would have occurred LONG ago if they had been forced to defend themselves with their tax dollars instead of ours.

Socialism is grand... until you run out of other peoples money to pay for it.

We prolonged that day of reckoning for Europe and in the process have infected a whole generation of American youth with the idea that socialism can work.”

We have reached the point where America should no longer be shouldering the responsibility in both blood and treasure to provide security for the rest of the world.

It’s time for those who need defense to do it themselves, or PAY us to equip and train THEIR people to defend themselves. I’m tired of being Team America, World Police.

“Let us see Cruz at 53% Trump 11% Cruz over performs in polls and Trump under performs! Trump attacked Romney 3 days before vote. Unless I am really out to lunch on drugs I don’t think Trump will win Utah or Arizona for that matter.. Hows that??”

Just a bit delusional...but then the question needs to be asked...where does Teddy win looking forward? Trump is surging in the polls and among Republicans Cruz has higher unfavorable or negatives now than Trump. Cruz appears to have peaked and may be dwindling...he is irrelevant in this race now...it will just take a few more weeks for people like you to see it.

I got in a discussion with a Cruzbot who made a huge deal out of the “fact” that Cruz didn’t use Trump’s name when he blamed Trump for the violence in Chicago. Therefore, everyone who said Cruz blamed Trump is a “liar.” Then the Cruzbot repeatedly blamed Trump for the violence.

Another refused to discuss Cruz’s lie that Trump supports single-payer “for all Americans.” Instead, he pretended that the only issue was that I supposedly had misused the word “socialism,” which I hadn’t. No matter what questions I asked, his only response was to attack me for my “ignorance of economics,” etc.

There’s something seriously evil about Cruz and his bots.

You have an interesting way to be dishonest.

Big names back Trump tower

Donald Trump has lined up three New York hedge funds, including money from billionaire George Soros, to invest $160 million in his Chicago skyscraper, a key piece in perhaps the largest construction financing in the city’s history, according to real estate sources and public documents.

I am fine with you personally deciding you don’t want to be the world policeman.

The Republicans and the Democrats came to a rather common conclusion with you in the era of the peace dividend of the early 1990s when the cold war came to and end.

Defense was cut and rationalizations like yours rolled along on both sides of the aisle.

Islamic supremacism is the new cold war and its honestly a much hotter war than the one with the soviets.

The Brussels attacks will come here to the US and as Bush said, it is better to fight them over there. NATO is a good potential instrument for organizing the Europeans to actually fight terrorism.

They do not effectively fight terrorism because of poor presidential leadership by Obama.

Cruz is not saying Trump causes the attack. Cruz is saying that the attack proves the indispensable nature of NATO and how even the islamic terrorists understand this.

The $160 million investment is in the form of a mezzanine loan, a kind of second mortgage that typically charges a much higher interest rate than a first-mortgage construction loan.

An exorbitant interest business loan in 2004. They're such great pals. /s

“Cruz seemed to have been made of better stuff.”

Blind, desperate ambition can present itself in many ways.

Thanks for the thoughtful post. I’m beholden to no politician. I respect that you’ll have an opinion, and I have mine. Mine may be not as informed, but it is still valid, nonetheless.
Besides remarks here and there and some volatile supporters, I don’t see him as any worse or better than Trump. Frankly I don’t understand the staunch support for Trump on a conservative website. He may be anti-establishment, but I’m not convinced he won’t do whatever to get what he wants. That is something of a concern.

Cruz often leaves the impression that he believes that the Presidency is a prize awarded to the most clever debater.

I find Rafael Cruz’s fixation with Donald Trump striking because it seems like Rafael cannot utter a sentence or answer a question without taking a tacky shot at Donald Trump, even under the most grievous circumstances.

Umm no. I believe he meant more of what happened in Brussels will come to pass if we elect Trump.
In one sentence you chastise me for not directly quoting Cruz, then in the very next you add your own meaning. You don’t get to have it both ways. ‘Striking’ does not indicate blame. He did use the tragedy to gouge Trump, he’s not blaming Trump for the tragedy. I don’t support Cruz’s words, only to defend that Cruz isn’t blaming as you state only that Trumps plans to defund NATO will allow more of this terror to happen.

Frankly I don’t understand the staunch support for Trump on a conservative website.

If you look down the “checklist” of which issues are most important to the people who post here... Trump is on the right side of about 90% of them. Cruz is actually a little closer match for many people but he has slippery politician demeanor. And if you use common sense he has no chance of winning in the general election. The fact that the insiders such as Mitt Romney and Lindsay Graham are now lining up behind Cruz is not helping the already prevalent perception he cannot be trusted.

Yes, that is very concerning. I despise the DC Criminal Machine. I will support whomever gets the nomination but honestly, perhaps it’s going to have to get a lot worse before people wake the f up and realize how corrupted the elites in DC have become.

Did he "blame" Trump? Not even close. And if you think he somehow is, you are the one who is blinded by your hatred of Cruz.

Bullcrap! Cruz DIRECTLY linked Donald Trump. That was no slip, that was intentional. He went out of his way to make the connection. Cruz is slipping fast with advisors like Graham, Romney and Beck. I can only guess that his ego makes it impossible for him to see.
