This my first vanity post ever and I hope that this doesn't violate forum rules. I originally posted this as a comment in another thread and was encourage to begin a separate thread. Here goes:
I spent 20 years of my life as a banker in the Washington, DC area. Consequently, many of my clients were politicians, congressional and White House staffers, lobbyists and media types (all members of the establishment). My observation is that the establishment places great value on promoting grossly immoral activity by government, while maintaining a facade of genteel decency (think Harry Reid). While maintaining an image of decency in public. many of these people were foul and profane in their private lives (think about Jesus description of Pharisees and scribes as whitewashed sepulchers.) Part of the reason that I can develop some level of comfort with Trump is a reasonable amount of evidence that he is better in private than he is in public. With all the other candidates (professional politicians to a man), there is every reason to suspect that they are much worse in private than they are in public. Given a choice, I would rather have a president with a faulty image, but good character in private if the alternative is a more polished candidate who in private will sell the country down the river - in a classy way.
A couple of examples might be good to add. Leave out names of you must.
Good first vanity too. As long as you put’vanity’ in the title anything goes from my understanding. Within limits of course.
Using Trump as a example of character might be setting the bar a bit low. How do we know your not owned by Wall Street and Goldmansachs?
I am currently a college professor. If you saw my bank balances, you would see proof that I haven’t been bought by anybody.
Examples would probably give away too much information. However, one “consistent conservative champion” told me in private that the Constitution isn’t much more influential than a roll of Costco toilet paper: We do what we please.
I think it’s the difference between making money off of other people’s money versus making money from building/making things.
Trump’s talk and little side comments reveal a lifetime’s lessons of working with people to create something of value. It gives us a look at his good character.
Let us know how that Hope and Change works out for you!
Post more often!
YOU ROCK..!
Welcome to reality.
Last summer after Trump announced, I set out to prove he was a liar, a cheat, a liberal poser, etc. ... all the things that the media’s caricature of him had permeated to a prejudice of him.
And I found everything to be the opposite of what I thought I would find.
The first thing I found was decades-old proof, proof not just evidence, of his unwavering support for our military, our brave warriors and vets. I was shocked to say the least at the depth of his devotion. And further research showed he has helped hundreds and hundreds of vets long before he ever filed to run for president.
And that’s just one aspect about him.
When one wakes to the awful lies of the media, one feels betrayed and the hurt of these betrayals leads to anger. For me, the proper way to manage the anger is to fight back like Donald Trump does, to throw it back in the face of what I call the ‘Scumbag Media’.
The media hates Trump because he does not bow to them. He bows to no one except our patriots.
What’s the Republican Party doing about it?
Trump at least married all his ladies and has produced good children especially for someone who is wealthy (no drug addicts or countercultural spoiled children). Duh, the way I read the author he is saying that the bankers as well as the politicians live with only a facade of decency.
The question I would have for Mr. Banker is which candidate is most likely to use evil well instead of badly? Truman used the A-bomb; Churchill allowed the bombing of Coventry by the Nazis instead of revealing the Brits had broken the Nazi codes; Reagan took full responsibility for the Iran-Contra Affair; Moses murdered his enemies. Gratuitous evil is to be abhorred and avoided, but there are special situations requiring the use of evil for good: certain wars, plots and conspiracies (waterboarding), and being overwhelmed by foreign immigration. Mr. Banker doesn’t help us understand which candidate would be best for deciding to intervene in wars not apparently in our self interest that, if not contained, would end up in our self interest. Two cheers for Trump for bringing the BIG issues of trade, war, and immigration to the forefront (whether one votes for him or not).
That not just the celebutards from the reality show dog squeeze but actual normal people he had power over like drivers and bellhops all invariably seem to dig him is a very redeemable trait. I figure if he was a snobby d-bag even once to someone it would be all over the place.
But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a giant orange weirdo. He went on reality TV and pro-wrestling not because he had to, but just because he liked it. Pretty damn odd. And yes, I think anyone that wants to president in 2016 has to have something pretty wrong with them, that certainly includes more polished career politicians.
Freegards
Sooo, how do you square the the strip clubs, gambling casinos, and philandering with your “Christianity”? Or do you compartmentalize that?
I’ve made peace with the concept of a Trump presidency as well... it won’t be worse than Bush as a president, and I mean that only in the sense I happen to play the token American when visiting friends and family in Europe. They disliked Bush and are repulsed by Trump. Right now Europe is such a mess, all I’ve had to point out is Trump couldn’t possibly be worse than any of the leaders in Europe... reluctantly they agree. This may not be the time we need a polite and polished leader.
I’m not supporting anyone in the primaries, but find myself rushing to defend Trump more than anyone else. Personally I’m still repulsed by him, but that has more to do with my upbringing.
I agree. Thanks for pointing out the slick lawyer facades. No Obamacare for them! I’ve been voting in elections 45 years, and for the last 30 years it’s all been Woodrow Wilson’s plan chipping away at America to become part of the global world. I watch as the UN has agendas, in which the US promised an unending number of “refugees”, gun rights for US are discussed, taxes on climate change offenders (how many times will you flush the toilet like in England), etc
I supported Ben Carson. He emailed us when he found a candidate that matched his vision with his heart really for We The People, he would endorse. He endorsed Trump. First, we need a wrecking ball to smash this stranglehold to bits, then years and years of reconstruction. Trump is that wrecking ball...It’s time to wake up.
By becoming an apostate and a liberal!
I don’t. Every one the the surviving candidates is deeply flawed. Aristotle and Thomas Jefferson each believed that the desire for political power reveals a deep seated character flaw. I tend to agree. Trump’s flaws are open to the public and in the main he has accepted responsibility for his misdeeds. Also, many of the misdeeds which are thrown in the faces of his supporters happened 15 to 20 years ago. Which of us fine Christian men here are not better today than we were when younger? If you feel righteous when you compare yourself to Trump, we can have a private conversation in which I might recommend some Scripture readings.
I misspent several decades of my life as a service provider to and friend of numerous establishment players. Many have cultivated false images and crafted artful life stories (abetted by a complicit media and political ecosystem) which allow them to portray themselves as “moral” people, when their private and political behavior speak to a different persona than the one they project. One of the remaining candidates has desired the presidency since his early teen years (by his own admission) and has taken career steps to enhance his political viability at significant cost to his family. You don’t have to be a complete cynic to be uncomfortable accepting every detail of his carefully crafted life story and philosophy.
I suppose your hope and change vehicle is Saint Ted or Postmaster General Kasich. Rots o’ Ruck.
