I wonder if Venezuela’s leaders are suffering like their subjects?

Commenting on Nicaragua, Sanders said in 1985, "Sometimes, American journalists talk about how bad the country is, with people are lining up for food. That's a good thing. Other countries, people don't line up for food; the rich get the food and the poor starve to death."

The game can seemingly be kept up indefinitely as long as it stays in house.

Except I bet the rich find a way to avoid lining up for it. They may pay obscene prices sometimes, but they find a way. The system isn’t even fair in the “punishment” it doles out.

“Venezuelans are starving it is because they remain in the city waiting to be fed by their government instead of walking out to the country and starting to grow their own food.
Almost all of them live in ONE city and they sit there and starve.”

It would be much the same in the United States. There are already tens of millions of city people who are dependent upon the government for their food through the food stamp/EBT program. If those cards quit working, very few of those city folks will head to the country. That’s like a whole different scary world to them. They’ll remain in the cities waiting for more hand outs, and when they do not come, they’ll riot and loot. If some kind of supply system isn’t reinstated (What delivery truck driver would want to drive into an area of rioting mobs?) many of those who are starving will FINALLY start taking direct measures to feed themselves by resorting to cannibalism.

The US might be more culturally inclined to “go country.”

In an imbalance situation like this, not only are the cities starving, but the farms don’t have the market.

"Based on current knowledge, but the ability to locate oil has improved when economics have forced the issue."

That's true. But shale plays are more short lived and less productive than projections for loans led us to believe, and the scheme of pushing junk debt investments to oil production didn't work out well. Most of what we've seen about the issue has been propaganda.

There are various perspectives and interests here, but you might find it interesting.

I'll give cheap oil 3 1/2 years at the most, cheap oil being less than $100 per barrel. Then, it will be time to produce nearly everything closer to home.

Obama, Hillary and Bernie are all on board with making it happen here.

So far, they’ve had a lot of support.....enough to put Obama in ..... twice.

"The game can seemingly be kept up indefinitely as long as it stays in house."

Seemingly is the key word. Government needs more than debt and revenues that are derived largely from debt. Government--like any other entity--needs revenues of real value. For example, within five years, I wouldn't try to sell anything to a rural building inspector or planning director. Money must be backed by something of real value.

"Based on current knowledge, but the ability to locate oil has improved when economics have forced the issue."

I replied, "That's true." But that was a mistake. No new oil that can be harvested was located. Granted, though, production was made cheaper by cutting labor strength and suppliers to producers selling at less than profitable prices (suppliers also debt).

Documentation as to the efforts and the effects?

Another correction of one of my comments. Petrobras found another offshore drop in a bucket, presented big numbers and wants big debt money.

OK, speaking of one event.

The whole thing smells to be spoiled big by corruption. Petrobras probably can’t even do what it would like to do.

Governments can be very wicked.

"Documentation as to the efforts and the effects?"

That's a lot of material. It takes days of reading to get a reasonably good, general idea of what is probably ahead. "More articles" at Oilprice.com would be an easy and good enough source to get the information from--especially articles that show analyses of IEA and EIA publications. Do notice that there are subjective interests behind some of the articles, though not as much subjectivity or market pushing as one would read at, say, Bloomberg.

It sure sounds like Venezuela does not have a free market anyhow, so how could Petrobras even have a chance? It would be told this arbitrary planned price, take it or leave it, and it would leave it.

The New York Times will report on this on one page, yet praise socialism on the next.
