EU referendum: Scotland backs Remain as UK votes Leave

Scotland has voted in favour of the UK staying in the EU by 62% to 38% - with all 32 council areas backing Remain.

But the UK as a whole has voted to Leave - raising the prospect of Scotland being taken out of the EU against its will.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Scotland had delivered a "strong, unequivocal vote" to remain in the EU. ..Ms Sturgeon's predecessor, Alex Salmond, said the result could lead to a second independence referendum.

Ms Sturgeon said the vote had made clear "that the people of Scotland see their future as part of the European Union". She added: "We await the final UK-wide result, but Scotland has spoken - and spoken decisively."

...This is exactly the scenario the SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon envisaged when she said that if Scotland is "dragged out of the EU against its will" that could trigger a second referendum on Scottish independence.

..Spokesman John Edward, said: "We are proud that every single local authority area in Scotland voted Remain with an overall lead of 24 points over Leave - that clearly stands out as an exceptional result compared to the rest of the UK.

I prefer to think of it more that we have jumped into the taxi after a disastrous date, leaving Ms Merkel with the bill.

“I’m pretty sure this means the break-up of England and Scotland. “

As much as I love Scotch(!), England would be better off without Scotland.

I don’t think the EU would allow Scotland to join.

“Scotland will gleefully demand a second referendum and win independence”

In other words, Scotland will vote to leave the UK, where they help run the government, and vote to join the EU, where they will have no voice whatsoever.

Can you think of any more gloom and doom?

I never realized that a nation’s choice for liberty and sovereignty and anti-globalism could be so wrong.

As someone who’s maternal great grandmother was from Scotland; I cannot begin to tell you how sad I am that the Scots have become such a nation of freeloading babies.
