I loved how he despised Dingy Harry Reid. He had Harry’s number.

Christian was almost Seven of Nine

She read for the Star Trek: Voyager role that ultimately went to Jeri Ryan.

Walter Koenig is killing off the actors from Babylon 5. He was Alfred Bester in the series. Why is he doing so? He is a member of PSI OPS.

Bruce Boxleitner should be worried......

I also remember that Michael O’Hare also died from the series. He was also 60 years old. Very odd.

I loved how he used talk about how he and Bruce Boxenleitner ( also a conservative) used to eat lunch together and sometimes talk to JMS ( a big lib) and they both drive him crazy with their conservatism.

And despite their differences politically, Straczynski's statement on his passing is quite gracious.

None of it is in HD. JMS regularly hassles WB to try to do a conversion, but there was no such thing as HD then. Now it was filmed in wide screen even though almost no TVs were wide then, and a few of the early DVD releases they messed up the wide screen matting. they’re all fixed in the second pressings though. And yes, shoestring budget make 20 year old productions look dated, but eventually EVERYTHING looks dated. Meanwhile it’s still one of the greatest stories ever told on TV.

I didn’t know it was filmed in WS. Man, it would be awesome if JMS got them to do it.

Of course he had a hell of a time getting them to do his way to begin with. But he got it done.

Sad news. I loved Babylon 5 and watched it back in the day.

Heard him say more than once “you know you are in trouble if the doctor says don’t buy any green bananas”.

RIP Jerry. Mr Doyle sounds a lot like Trump in the middle of this speech in 2011:

And had Christian won the part, Ryan would not have had the highly publicized divorce which led her husband withdrawing from the Illinois Senate race and to the candidacy of an obscure community organizer ...

In other words, the selection of Ryan over Christian gave us 0bama.

Fates of nations hang on otherwise obscure events ...

The DVDs and most of the reruns show in WS (there were a couple of glitched scenes in the first pressings of season 1 and 2, one where you can see off set behind Londo and a couple of places the FX got hacked, but only the first pressings). Things were rolling towards a movie, JMS thought he could leverage that to getting a bluray release done, which would mean upconverting to HD, but the movie stalled and so did that.

Was that (Claudia Christian’s audition for 7 of 9) back when she was heavily drinking? On a “good day” for both, IMO there’s no question that Claudia is the better actress, though that may not have been the #1 criteria... Jeri Ryan, even in everyday attire, is a very beautiful woman!

BTW, an old customer of mine used to hang out with Jeri Ryan when Ryan was a young woman, even skinny dipped with her — who knows, had they hit it off further, perhaps there would not have been a divorce from Jack Ryan, well, not THAT divorce anyway...

However, Jack Ryan was not a great candidate — few IL Republicans are — and was substantially behind Obama even before the divorce controversy arose.

My favorite Garibaldi quote is when, in “Severed Dreams”, he tries to set up a strong defensive position, and the dang Narn allies just rush past him to meet the invaders head-on, which is (mostly) suicide*: The situation certainly could generate profanity, in “real life”, which (at least moderate examples) were occasionally “ok” on B5. But Garibaldi yells “Awwwww...NUTS!!” The line is delivered so well, profanity would just detract from it...

Other great Garibaldi exchanges with characters on B5:

Londo: Just now, would you really have killed me?

Garibaldi: Yes. Yes, I would have. But I’m just as glad I didn’t have to. The paperwork’s a pain in the butt.

***

Londo Mollari: [arguing with Garibaldi] We made a mistake, I’m sorry. Here, open my wrists. [offers Garibaldi his wrists]

Michael Garibaldi: Centauri don’t have major arteries in their wrists.

Londo: Of course not! What, do you think I am stupid?

***

Walker Smith: Any ideas on how I should fight this guy?

Michael Garibaldi: From inside a Main Battle Tank would be nice.

***

[Garibaldi enters the casino to find an angry, inebriated Ivanova mopping the floor with the patrons.]

Ivanova: Are you gonna arrest me, Garibaldi?

Garibaldi: No way! I wanna live to see the future.

***

[Garibaldi and a security officer are breaking in to a post office storage room.]

Michael Garibaldi: What are you so nervous about? We went up against the entire Earth Alliance and two carrier groups.

Security Officer: Yeah, but this is the post office. This could get us in real trouble.

***

Garibaldi: After what we’ve been through with your people, Sheridan was crazy to send our pilots out to fight for your ship! They didn’t want to go, they didn’t want to get blown out of the sky and leave B5 defenseless, and they sure as hell didn’t want to die! But they did it because Sheridan told them to do it and because it was right!

G’Kar: This time it is possible he could be wrong.

Garibaldi: Yeah, it’s possible. But you don’t follow an order because you know for sure it’s gonna work out! You do what you’re told! Because your CO has the moral authority that says, “You may not come back! But the cause is just and fair and necessary!” That’s why Sheridan is out there, and damn it, that’s where that cruiser should be, too! It’s not Na’Kal’s decision, G’Kar. He doesn’t see the big picture—you do! So in MY book, and YOUR book (forcefully pushes back into G’Kar’s hands the copy of the Narn “bible” that G’Kar loaned to Garibaldi), that makes it your responsibility! Deal with it!

Coming to this thread late and sorry for this man’s death. I don’t really know this show, but maybe I will check it out. But I don’t see what you guys are seeing, I don’t think this fellow looks like Bruce Willis at all.

A resemblance to Bruce Willis is in the eye of the beholder ;-). Maybe if you pulled up some pictures of each, you’d see it, if there were some when they were roughly the same age.

I was amazed by a recent picture of Mr. Doyle. I don’t know what he was sick with several years back, when I used to listen to his show on streaming audio out of Las Vegas, but he went from “very-well-preserved middle age, be still my heart” to “walking dead.”
