Possibly. Perhaps not before the election, but before transfer of power. The important thing to consider is what Trump and the so-called alt right have generated, a legitimate grassroots populist uprising. And even if Trump loses, this movement will not go away; in fact it will most likely strengthen. The elites know that more people are waking up and their days are numbered. They will do anything to hold their grip on the power that they have spent over 80 years trying to consolidate. They will burn this country to ashes before letting go of their power. The Trump revolution must not only be stopped, it must be destroyed. War combined with economic collapse are two things that can quickly make people forget the name Trump. We are not dealing with rational individuals, the people are hardcore sociopaths who will go to any extreme to keep their power.

They want to stand up to Putin and make him cry uncle. She they are not cowards! Its just saber rattling. Make Trump look Pro-Russian and Anti-American. It will not work.

What is Russia trying to do with Syria? Root out the Islamic radicals. Obama opposes that while importing as many non-assimilating “refugees” as possible - a future war on our own turf.

We are, as a nation, very close to being the villains in world history. Special thanks to the wealth compromised Republicans who apparently enjoy dropping the soap.

I think they'll start a war with Klendathu if they think it can help them keep power.

"Do you get me?"

In my opinion unless William M. Daley is a presence at the White House nothing will happen. He is the only mover in the bunch.

It’s a sham.

I dunno. I watched a recent clip of Putin, saying (very carefully) that Obama is pushing for war.

Could be serious.

After all, I’m not Kreskin.

But I’ve lived a looooong time, and I’ve been hearing that we’re on the brink of war with the Soviet Union, and now Russia, since I was in nursery school.

If we didn’t go to war over Cuba in ‘62, I’ll have to see it to believe it.

Could be the last thing I see. ;-)

Like I said, I’m not Kreskin.

the same POS that was making fun of us for thinking Russia was an adversary three years ago are now rattling their plastic butter knives (once known as sabers) at the country that has been arming up.

The Russian economy is in the dumper. But Putin has never been more popular. He has transformed his image from the weak economic leader to the strong war leader. Although America is spread too thin and under prepared for a war and has the weakest leader in over 100 years, declaring war has the possibility of toppling Putin as it might drive the Russian economy into the ground.

Putin is a very smart, cagey man. He is also a poker player. Our leaders in the West are Tiddlywinks players. Putin is using his last opportunity to rattle his sabre to see what he can get.

This brinksmanship carriers some inherent dangers. At the bottom of the stack but on the firing line, are ordinary citizens who believe the rhetoric is real. They have their fingers on triggers and have been preparing to fire for some time. They might get tired, or scared or just angry. Thus, what was intended as brinksmanship of the highest order could shortly be a real war.

“O” (never an adept at foreign policy issues) is certainly much more active than ever and all of the sudden he is spoiling for a confrontation with Putin.

The timing is certainly interesting and it's all being stage managed to sell Evita on her Sec of State ‘experience’ ... AS IF that would persuade anyone with a brain.

It seems very ‘stage-managed’ and forced.

In 8 years and if he ever bothered at all, “Obozo’ demonstrated the most laughable incompetence and inability to comprehend the US position in the ME and elsewhere and mishandled everything he attempted….so it’s curious why NOW, he’s courting attention to his consistently poor performance on foreign policy!

I guess, if he knows he can throw the s%*t on the wall and walk away, it doesn’t matter what he does, how badly he does it or even HOW the consequences will affect the US or our allies.

Too bad, he should just hold his breath until he leaves and call himself lucky that he didn't cause WORSE problems and embolden our enemies more than he did.

Anyway-he will leave the WH the way he went in… as a dangerous fraud.

Well, if he starts a war with Russia and loses, he may go out of office as a war criminal.

Yep! Because the winners put the losers on trial and execute them. Not the other way around. For any number of reasons, Russia can survive a nuclear exchange, we can’t.

Not only will they quietly go to prison, they will hop in the trucks when commanded.

Worthy topic, should get more coverage/attention.

I'll probably miss some things, but top of mind points for consideration and review:

*Mutually Assured Destruction kept the Cold War from going hot. The Russian mindset under Communism was reliably predictable in that they didn't believe in an afterlife, so no glory for carrying out the unthinkable. Do we have that same calculus now from a former KGB guy in Putin? I'd say they remain highly pragmatic overall...and DON'T want war.

*However, they seem to be acting/reacting as if we/NATO want war. And, our current leadership isn't helping in that perception. With current statements from Biden about cyberwar, General Milley's on Oct 5th of: "We will stop you and we will beat you harder than you have ever been beaten before. Make no mistake about that."

*Russia's call for all students and relatives of staff to return home as soon as possible...this is unprecedented, correct? I don't recall any moves like this in the Cold War

*The exercise 2 weeks ago over 3 days to practice moving 40m people to bomb/fallout shelters. I have heard that civil defense type drills are a bit more regular in Russia, but that this scale was unusual

*Some various analysis from ex-military folks I have seen is that Russia cannot go long with a conventional war in a scale needed vs a US/NATO adversary. They are fine in a smaller theater like Syria or Ukraine; so therefore they could go "hot" pretty quick if push came to shove.

*What is our motivation to poke the bear the way we are doing? Actual thirst for war? A ploy to see Russia "back down" right before an election to help Hillary? A desire to see America destroyed? An increasing desire to see the Assad regime turnover in Syria, and to what end?

My armchair guess is given the data point of the calling students home that they think war is likely; and any reasonable expectation would be that it would take 3-4 weeks from that statement to get people back; which puts things right on the other side of our election day.
