Republicans Cave On ObamaCare

Health Reform: Seven years after vowing to repeal ObamaCare, Republicans have labored to produce plan that replaces ObamaCare with …. ObamaCare.

The plan released Monday — called the American Health Care Act — has some good parts. It repeals ObamaCare's multitude of largely hidden but no less destructive taxes on health insurance plans, medical devices, flexible spending accounts and so on. It gets rid of ObamaCare's individual mandate and the job-killing employer mandate.

It expands the amount of money that can be contributed to Health Savings Accounts, the one health reform that has actually worked to lower costs. It's age-based, refundable tax credit for individual insurance is an improvement over ObamaCare's unpredictable, Rube Goldberg subsidy scheme.

But, as Vox.com's Sarah Kliff noted: "A curious thing has happened to the Republican replacement plan as it has evolved through multiple drafts: it has begun to look more and more like ObamaCare itself."

We'd go further and say that this bill would end up putting Republicans on record as supporting all the key elements of ObamaCare:

“It gets rid of ObamaCare’s individual mandate and the job-killing employer mandate.”

Five yards and a cloud of dust.

Trump should tell them to shove it until he gets what he wants.

Trump should grant 309 million blanket waivers until they can pass a decent bill.

Patience grasshopper

Trump has effusively praised Congress for this plan, because it is a start, not the end

Incrementalism vs inaction

And when a part of the plan creaks or freezes up, replace that part and keep on adding

Make it mandatory that each member of congress, their families and staff participate..that will entice them to do the right thing. As long as they are exempt, except cosmetically, nothing will change.

This is 'caving?' The only other thing I think is desperately needed is full country insurance policy offerings allowed to promote competition, increase insured pools and hopefully lower costs. I agree there are likely shortfalls in this but I do not consider it "Republicans Caving" frankly.

Uh huh. HHS Sec Tom Price [on behalf of Trump admin] endorses the American Health Care Act

The administration has accepted it as is.

...supporting all the key elements of ObamaCare

Baloney. The key elements are the mandates and all the taxes that are being removed as stated earlier in the article.

I’m no fan of this, but I think they need to be honest about this. And the RINO’s have not surprised me. :(

“Trump should tell them to shove it until he gets what he wants.”

Well, Trump and Price signed on this morning to this bill. And yes, Trump says it’s open to “review and negotiation”. But they plan to be voting on this in 2 weeks. And why would THIS be his opening bid if he really thought it was up for negotiation?

Lipstick on the pig of Obamacare does not surprise me from Ryan and his RINO cohorts, what does surprise me is the Trump administration thinking this is “wonderful”.

This plan removes all mandates. It removes the taxes which are counter-productive and dumb. It’s not perfect, because it still has the feds involved in health care. But if those two things are gone, that’s the core. It will allow competition for health care, including low-cost alternatives which people will prefer when they’re paying, to emerge. It’s competition that will cause NannyGovernmentCare to become an alternative to be avoided.

THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!

Throw out their RINO-Care with them!

The feds have no constitutional authority to be meddling in healthcare.

Healthcare needs to be run by the free market economy which gave America the best, most affordable, most available healthcare in the world until the feds began rooting around and screwing it up.
