Chaffetz considering early departure from Congress
The Hill ^ | 04/20/2017 | Cristina Marcos

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who stunned Washington with an announcement that he is not running for reelection, might not even finish his remaining term.

Chaffetz told KSL News Radio’s Doug Wright that he may not finish out his full term through 2018. But he said he’s still debating the decision amid uncertainty over how Utah would establish a process to replace him early.

"I will continue to weigh the options, but I might depart early," Chaffetz told the Utah radio host on Thursday.

This could be troubling. I have always found him to be a principled guy and am a little concerned that he sees trouble coming.

Either a really great gig, or somebody’s got something really juicy on Chaffetz....

So the open question is “WHY?”
Did he get a “revelation?”

I’m afraid that Egg McMuffin is going to run for his seat.

I don’t get this. What’s with uncertainty over how to fill his seat?? Doesn’t Utah have a procedure already in place, either a special election or other process to fill out an unexpired term in Congress if a vacancy occurs???

The only two rational explanations.

Someone’s blackmailing him.

And, Chaffetz, if you have submitted or are submitting to blackmail, and/or are a national security risk, don’t let the door hit you.

Family problems? Well, maybe. Sounds like a convenient excuse though.

My guess? He retires early, and in 6 or 8 months he just can no longer watch from the sidelines (supposedly) and throws his hat in the ring to replace Orin Hatch.

Presto Change-o...From Rep to Senator.

Read the article!!!!!!!!

“Chaffetz cited a desire to spend more time with his family in Utah and return to the private sector.”

Why does it have to be more than that?

Don’t trust him, never did. If resigns before the end of his term, it’s likely someone has something on him.

I listened to his questions on the Rod Arquet show yesterday our local talk show host...

Jason said he would finish his term, but he didn't want to run again...he was thinking about the Gov. of Utah position in 2020 what Gov. Herbert's term is over...

He didn't say a word about leaving early, and I think the media is making propaganda again...

What would he have to accomplish by leaving early...if he is thinking of running for Gov. that wouldn't set with the voters here, how would they trust he wouldn't leave the Gov. office early if he did this to the position he is in now?

Nope, fake news as far as I'm concerned...

Why not take a man for his word? If we know these folks hardly spend any time at home why wouldn’t their families apply pressure to come back and give it up?

Sometimes the simplest explanation is the reason provided
