IMO, this article should have been in the editorial section of the paper's website. Blatant bias from the first sentence but, hey, it's the Associated Press, so what did I expect, right?

The world will always have some dangers. The pertinent question is how to wisely deal with the risks.

People who want peace really want God. And in God there is a group of imperatives related to His love.

Without God invited, the guns and guts are but prideful show, are but in vain.

Until we can talk as a society about God again, we never can agree.

The anti-gun movement is going to need guns to face the pro-gun movement. And in their stupidity, they will happily arm the government against the people to face that challenge. Never once will it dawn on their puny little minds that an armed government set against the People is set against them as well. Liberals are their own worst enemy -- and sadly they drag forward thinking conservatives into the muck with them.

Excerpt of the opening of the article:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump, darling of the National Rifle Association, has custody of the Oval Office. The Republican-controlled Congress already has ditched one Obama-era rule to tighten access to guns. And an emboldened NRA has much more ambitious plans afoot for easing state and national gun laws as its annual convention unfolds this weekend in Atlanta.

But gun control advocates do not want your pity, thank you very much.

The groups that stand in opposition to looser gun laws say they are ready to rumble, as the NRA enjoys a post-election payoff moment Friday when Trump becomes the first president to appear at its convention since Ronald Reagan in 1983.

The government for all intents and purposes had that long ago. It takes a figure in government who robustly believes in private arms to keep the ituation from degenerating further. I hate to say it but I trust an average neighbor not to use weapons wantonly more than an insulated police force.

This is a subset of the argument about illiberal “liberals” who will gladly enlist the coercion of the state to protect you from yourself whether or not that was needed.

Let's start with repealing the machine gun ban of 1986, and 1934's NFA. I'd like to see The Gun Control Act of 1968 go away as well but I know that's pretty tough sell. Maybe we can weaken it though.

We've got the power. We need to act. Now.

Did I dream that over half of America’s murder problem is in FIVE counties? Not states, COUNTIES.

Go teach the people there about neighbor defense and self defense which is far better than what police can do. Watch America’s murder rate plummet.

Dear Bloomberg

You'll have to take my guns from my cold dead hands.

Yours, The USA

I noted with interest that it has zero comments, yet.

How do you suppose Oklahomans will respond to this bit of agitprop?

I think I’ll check back later.

Even better send the evangelists to the cowards who think governments are the highest powers that can ever be.

Did I dream that over half of America’s murder problem is in FIVE counties? Not states, COUNTIES.

Here in Jacksonville almost all the homicides are in a single zip code, a triangle-shaped slice of Duval County that police have termed the "cease fire zone." If you are white and aren't looking to buy drugs, you can go your entire life without ever setting foot there.

It's like this in most cities. Even in violent Chicago, almost all the murders are in a small handful of entirely black neighborhoods that skew the stats for the whole city.

Violent crime isn't a state problem, or a city problem. It is a neighborhood problem and those neighborhoods are almost entirely black.

Go teach the people there about neighbor defense and self defense which is far better than what police can do. Watch America’s murder rate plummet.

Most homicide victims in America have criminal records. They hang with the wrong crowd, engage in the wrong pastimes and piss off the wrong people. And when they wind up dead, nobody saw anything (but everyone saw it coming).

OK. Here’s an excerpt to pick over.

“WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump, darling of the National Rifle Association, has custody of the Oval Office.

“We have become the David to the NRA’s Goliath,” says Shannon Watts, who founded Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America following the 2012 shooting deaths of 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut. The group is now part of Everytown for Gun Safety, which is backed by billionaire Michael Bloomberg and is the largest organization fighting gun violence in the U.S.

.....”

“But gun control advocates do not want your pity, thank you very much.”

Good thing they don’t, because they deserve none of it, and would get none even if they did.

B-but aren’t you afraid of the crazy people the federal government won’t allow anyone to lock up anymore? Or the Muslim fanatics and drug dealers the 9th Circus won’t allow Trump to keep out? Surely you must realize that the only way to keep you safe from the problems liberactionary regressives create is to surrender your guns to them!

The problem with the gun-control agitators is that their actions have no downside for them - win or lose they never face any problems. If they lose, so what? They'll just try again. It might cost them some money, but rule number one about liberal money is that there is an endless supply. If they win, then they simply go on and start lobbying for ever tighter restrictions.

I'm not sure what could legally be done to put them at risk, and although the only reason some people are still alive is because it's against the law to kill them, it is against the law. Garbage like Shannon Watts, Gabby Gifford, Michael Bloomberg, etc. work their evil without any consequences to them.
