My daughter has a preexisting condition. Its a life threatening genetic disorder. She was born with it and will always have it. So far, she’s been very healthy, but it is always lurking. We can’t get life insurance for her, but have decent medical insurance. I don’t know what will happen when she has to get her own insurance. Her condition may make working difficult for her. Still, she doesn’t qualify for SSI, or any other financial medical aid.
This is a real problem for people and in many cases, they can’t work to pay for insurance themselves. So, what happens to these people? I feel like there really needs to be some sort of program for the people who can’t get insurance or work to afford their much higher premiums.

I agree with you and good post.

A buddy of mine waiting 9 months to save up for a hernia operation, paid cash. He could not find insurance that would cover that condition. Much less serious than the situation you experience.

The whole Obamacare fiasco could have been dealt with with community pricing and no denial for current healt (pre-existing conditions)

Instead it was turned into th fiasco that it became.

Like it or not there are a lot of fools here who don’t understand anything about insurance or health care but pop off like the ignoramouses they are.

Insurance by its very construct is socialism... it is the socializing of the risk... all pay in, some will use more than others but as long the total amount paid in is greater than the overall use it works.

If you think you can allow folks to pick and choose who they will cover or charge varying prices based on perceived need the whole thing falls apart. Those who have heavy need are left without and fall into government coverage... so thinking that denying pre-existing condition or having things othe than community pricing is saving you tax dollars is idiotic.

You can’t solve issues with a socialist construct by thinking applying Laise faire capitalism to it...

I would advise you or your daughter to move to a state that has community pricing and does not allow pre existing conditions at the state level, because if these fools get their way it’s the only way she/you are going to avoid fiscal calamity

I agree. We are no longer the kind of nation that puts its poor, sick and elderly people outside to die from the cold, or be eaten by wolves.

There has to be a way for the unfortunate to be cared for, or allowed to buy health insurance.

Hopefully, private organizations can find a way to take care of such things, with state and local governments as a backup. The federal government typically cannot find it’s own bee-hind with both hands and a flashlight.
