64 was a leaf spring rear end. The Galaxies after that went Coil 2 or 4 link after that for a while. the big block 500’s w/ floor shifts, options are commanding big money. Personally I like the 65’s and 66’s, 67’s are ok.

I know a little bit..not much. I believe it could be had with a 289, 390 or 427 engine. The 289 was the base engine, I think. The 390 was the most common. The 427 was rare and the most of the Galaxy 500s were the 390. I think it could be had with a 4-speed manual, but most were autos. We used to cruise around in a friend’s ‘64 390 Galaxie 500 2-door hardtop all the time. Like almost all full-size cars of the ‘60s, it was a boat. Plush ride, poor brakes and hardly any corning ability. It was a competitor to the Chevy Impala and the Plymouth Belvedere. From what I remember, it was slowest of the three with comparable engines. Still, it was one heckuva cruiser. We had a lot of good times in that car.
Hey, that little turbocharged V6 isn’t cheap, you know...
And making the pick-up frame aluminum. I know a body shop owner, long a Ford truck man, who said that was a huge mistake. He recently opted for a GM over a Ford because of it.
The bed is aluminum alloy. The frame is steel.

Actually, the body and bed are aluminum alloy, not just the bed.
All the advertisements I heard from Ford stated that the frame was made from,”military grade aluminum”. You may know something that Ford’s Advertising Department or whatever the political correct term is doesn’t.
Bed and cab, basically the whole body, sounds like.
I owned a 64 Impala SuperSport back in the mid sixties and remember both the 63 and 64 Galaxy well. Your exactly right re 390 ci engines and the rare 427 but I don’t remember ever seeing a 289 in a Galaxy.
It’s the body, not the frame that’s aluminum.
And despite all of GM’s advertising to the contrary, they’re supposed to have *their* truck converted to aluminum body by next year or the year after.
Check the ads on YouTube and elsewhere. They say steel frame, aluminum body.

Thanks. I don’t keep up closely. I was just going on what I thought I heard from my body man last week. I have a 2010 F-150. Got rear-ended by a couple of dope-heads a couple of weeks ago and it went into the shop this morning to be fixed. My body man said they have not had very good experience with repairing the trucks with aluminum parts. He did not elaborate, so I don’t know the specifics of his complaints. But he is personally staying away from the aluminum.
