I’m on 20/20 preferences and all is good enough. Some time lapse 5% of the time. Not there at all .01%. Nothing like Inauguration Day.
May God bless and strengthen Freerepublic.
FreeRepublic is and always will be the best site on the internet.
According to that nice person in the first pic who may have self-declared as a womyn, it's your own fault ... for allowing people to post stuff like this ... that triggers otherwise peaceful Libtards ... and makes their butts hurt big time!
Or a progressive that has it out for FR, that has some skills.
You know when you’re over the target when you’re receiving the most flack.
A DDOS attack explains it. That’s a dirty nasty problem to overcome, and all of us are rooting for you.
You’re doing a fine job. Good luck, and God speed.
I’ve wondered for a while (just a wild guess) if it might be misguided revenge by some at DU for their being down during election time. You know that they have both motive and enough evil intent to qualify as a suspect. Oh, well. I’ll wonder no more for now. Night all.
How does it go, if you are getting flack you are on the right target? Concur the Thanks to Jim and all supporters of FR. It would appear not only are we being attacked by software means but also by psychological means to take us down. Hang in there all and keep up our support!!!
Seriously.
I know there one political reasons to collapse this site because of Freeper crowdsourcing the veracity of MSM/DNC reporting, but cybercrime is important to root out.
At the very least, perhaps you should reach out to the newly formed California Cyber Crime Center that was announced by former Attorney General Kamala Harris.
I know what you're thinking, but what good is living in a country where conservatives are afraid of reaching out to their own law enforcement for fear of being abused by the police?
Maybe they will discover that it's part of a larger integrated cyber-attack on the United States? Maybe it's the Deep 5- itself. But...
Homeland Security says "If you see something, say something." You're seeing something; are you going to say something to the proper authorities, and then make them live up to their charter?

I’m not going anywhere, but I’ve been getting more work done lately — and that’s good because I owe you $.
Feedback is greatly appreciated.
Don’t be surprised if it turns out to be Pakistanis located here in the US but working for the ISI. The Chicoms are workung with the Pakis and giving a lot of tech assist to them of late. Right now, China is threatening to invade/attack parts of India. Do not think this is crazy talk ahout China, the same threats to India from China came in the 1960s and is definitely happening again. In both cases, China finds it in it’s interest to work with anti-India Pakistan.
And not that China is much interested in wasting time with denial of service attacks against FR... but Pakistan is. They will have their agents sitting around doing this sort of thing, have in the past and doing so today. Do not be surprised if they are doing this.
Let us know if he’s in New Jersey. I know a couple of guys......
First check the source IP's to make sure its not coming FROM the FBI. Of course they would at least be smart enough to spoof... but you never know with the bunch in there now.
Somebody help me understand how this could work.
In my normal course of using FreeRepublic, I only need to request about one page of text per second on average. If the system were to limit me to that, I would be fine I think.
If John has been able to at least temporarily identify the attacker and block them, then why not implement a limit on everybody at a level which does not inconvenience the typical user but which would make an attack ineffective?
What am I missing here?
Nope, you must be thinking of someone else, because I have no idea what it cost to host a domain like this. I've been asking for months about how much it cost due to the "millions" you've collected over the last 20 plus years which is your right in a free and open market system. I congratulate you for being so smart all those years ago.
I have no idea how much goes into your pocket other than it cost something like $2500 a month for bandwidth as you have listed although anyone can do the math. You apparently are no good at taking a compliment because you singled me out even though I have been very polite and congratulatory toward your business of owning this forum. I wonder why that is.
Constructive criticism is meant to help not insult but you have chosen to take it as an insult. Why is that? I'm just a little guy in the big cog who makes pennies to your dollars but I do have a little bit of education in computer science. Not enough, if I even wanted to, to start another conservative site although I suspect there are conversations about that I'm not privy to. I'm an avid reader who spends some time on other forums for very different (non political) hobbies so I know what's what when it comes to being the end user on those forums.
You can continue to single me out if you like but I have done nothing wrong and have only supported what you do here. If your ego can't handle a little constructive criticism meant to help; I'm truly sorry for that. You still need to upgrade the software to something closer to the year 2017 and not 1998. As I have said many times; the software is available to both upgrade to a more user friendly format but also keep it exactly like it is for those who don't like change. There will always be those who don't like change so why try to change them? You have the wealth of information from those who work in the IT field who have offered to donate their time to help you get all the problems straightened out that other businesses would die for. Again; you are very lucky. I just hope you realize that.
Probably coming from the Lizard Queen in Obama’s DC war room. My internet is slow anyway. So no problems here. Gonna get busy with some work though and make us some scratch.
Jim,
I know this Paki family that’s supposed to be real good with computers. I think their free (lol) for now ‘though I hear they are kinda expensive.
Well I appreciate what you do here, just added my donation.
Further, on debate nights ... you flip a switch and triple the horsepower - and only pay for that horsepower for a day. Things just don't break in the cloud ... or when they do, it's rare and transient and in most cases FR doesn't have to fix anything.
There just seems to be something nonsensical ... I mean no insult with that word ... with two guys single handedly doing this kind of battle, driving 3 hours for parts etc. The efforts are dramatic and heroic ... but are they necessary and are they succeeding?
I think the argument being made by any who are questioning how the money is spent isn't so much ... is someone profiting ... it's that ... it doesn't seem to make sense that in this day and age someone is driving 3 hours to pick up a part.
I think the argument is that ... there is a solution ... that doesn't require anything about the site itself to change ... and FR doesn't seems to want to look at it. It's hard to understand why. That's what I meant by 'It doesn't add up' in my previous post. It doesn't make sense. I don't have time to price it out at Azure or Amazon but ... what is the objection to sticking FR in the cloud? Maybe it IS too expensive. But can anyone actually say that? Is driving all day to pick up a hard drive less expensive? Are things going to get any easier? If this is a dos attack, and you finally beat this guy ... what stops it next week?
I hate to quote the cliche 'insanity' definition but ... well ... we all know the definition of insanity. it SEEMS like FR is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I think people are legitimately fed up. That's not the equivalent of people thinking they could do FR themselves, or of being complainers.
Finally - is there really reason to believe this is the last set of problems? And if not, is it really enough to just say 'we'll soldier through it next time just like we did this time?'
I think that would be acceptable if the complainers, many of whom probably feel they are trying to help, knew all options had been explored. Maybe they have! Have they?
Summary: It just seems that it doesn't have to be like this! But hey, maybe I'm wrong - maybe it does. But I don't think I'm wrong. I think these problems have already been solved by thousands of businesses.
