In no uncertain terms, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said he isn't going to toe the party line on every policy issue, just because he's up for re-election.
"I don't give a sh*t, you understand? I just don't give a sh*t," he told the Charleston Gazette-Mail Sunday. "Don't care if I get elected, don't care if I get defeated, how about that. If they think because I'm up for election, that I can be wrangled into voting for sh*t that I don't like and can't explain, they're all crazy."
He continued: "I'm not scared of an election, let's put it that way. Elections do not bother me or scare me. I'm going to continue to do the same thing Ive always done, extremely independent."
Manchin made the comments in response to pushback he received for not signing on to a letter establishing the Democratic Party's three main policy positions tax reform.

You’ve defined most politicians of all stripes. Some are better at hiding it.
Slick...that' exactly what he is and who he emulates...SLICK. With the RAT bench so thin for 2020, this Clintonesque character will fill the Bill.
Manchin has his eyes on the White House. He doesn’t view the Senate as the terminus of his political career. He sees himself as the next Bill Clinton minus the zipper problem, scandals & harridan wife. He thinks that at some point the Rat party will turn away from hard core leftism. He wants to be there when that happens and present himself as a return to the Rat party “old ways - party of FDR, ‘working man, etc.’ “. He wants to do the old Clinton-Morris triangulation where he presents himself as the reasonable, practical, pragmatic answer between the two extreme left & right wings.
I don’t think he can do this! It’s not 1992, the times are very different now. The fact that he thinks this strategy will works says he’s politically tone deaf & deluded about the state of today’s political landscape. Additionally he’s not Bill Clinton! He does not have Bill Clinton’s political skills or charm. I think he will have trouble getting re-elected. I look for Justice to challenge him and beat him. Not that Justice is any great shakes!
