Ever coverage of the latest flood shows people stranded on their roof.

I think anyone who lives in (or near) an area prone to flooding should have an inflatable raft with water tight storage container for food, water and first aid supplies.

If I was a liberal, I'd make it a law!

Good rafts can start as low as $99.00 and can be found anywhere from Costco to Army/Navy Surplus stores.

Houston is handling this exponentially better than NOLA handled Katrina.

Despite the mayor.

And the formula is evacuate from wind or storm surge, shelter from rain.

I’ve been thinking about that. I think I’d have one raft for human rescue and another raft or hard bottom small boat with some watertight boxes for critical belongings. For instance, If one was unable to get out in time, one could inflate a raft in the living room and put some smaller items, like family photo’s and other sentimental items inside. those that have great intrinsic but non-critical to life safety value.

On the other hand, with a hurricane and several days notice, I think that I would take those items out of the danger zone to a friend or even a storage locker in the safe zone days before.

I have two boats, but both Darwin and conservatism say owning a boat should be an individual choice.
