Shows how much the season has extended. In 1960, game 7 of the World Series was October 13th. This year, game 7 will be on November 1st, if the World Series goes the full 7 games.
The baseball playoffs go for an entire month nowadays. There are rumors that the wild card could go to a 2 out of 3 series, instead of a single game, and that the division series, which are now 3 out of 5, could go to a 4 out of 7 format. If that happens, that could easily add another week to the baseball playoffs.
I hate to see the playoffs expand any more, just due to the roll of the dice with weather this time of year.
You can’t always plan for California teams, or teams with domes/retractable roof stadiums, to be in the playoff hunt every year, to avoid bad weather.

It was an amazing series. I was a big Pirates fan and was over the moon that they beat the hated Yankees (who were my hometown Grapefruit League team). Those were the days when we took transistor radios to school to keep track of the games....all of which were played in glorious sunshine.
One of my earliest MLB memories . . .
I didn’t learn the outcome until after school. But I vividly remember listening on my transistor during recess, when the grounder hit Kubek in the throat and stopped play
The crowd noise that came over those radios was almost like being there....well, sorta
Saw that. I was in basic training (USAF) and walked into the
Flt leaders office about 30 seconds before Maz hit it out.
As a nyy fan I was bummed out.
Some think Maz is in the Hall of Fame just because of that walk off homer.
I remember listening to this on the radio at the time.
He wasn’t my favorite Clemente was but still very memorial moment.
Terrific!!!!
Thanks for posting!
In 1961 my little league team was the Pirates, where I played center field.
My heroes were Micky Mantle and Roger Maris.
Of course this was prior to there being any Southern MLB teams
Boo! This is one of my least favorite baseball moments.
Having grown up in Da Burgh in the 60’s, this game was one of great lore in my life. I’ve seen the Pirates play at Forbes Field a few times, and Three Rivers Stadium many times. Always was a fan of The Maz and that whole team, all the way through Pops leading us to the 79 series victory. I gave up on baseball during the 81 strike season. Have not missed it.
Funny now that the only active baseball player I could name for you today is Tim Tebow, who isn’t in the majors.
Crosby was so superstitious that he did not even want to be in the country for Game 7 so he arranged for he and his wife to fly to France just so they could miss the game and any partial scores. He instructed some Hollywood friends to set up a Kinescope of the tv screen (literally a movie film of a tv screen) to record the game so he could watch later if they won. That’s how the film of Game 7 was created and it was only discovered in the wine cellar of one of his estates as they were planning for an estate sale. Bing died in the late 70s but this wasn’t unearthed until about 10 years ago, which tells me there must have been long legal battles about dividing his property.
I was listening in school on my crystal radio earlier in the Series. Radio in desk, ear wire going up sleeve and into ear. The Catholic nun teacher actually brought in a little TV for game 7 and let us watch. Baseball was huge back then.
Beat em, Bucs! How sweet it is! We had em all the way! Open the window, Aunt Minnie!
Was in middle school, and obsessed with baseball.
My Little League team that summer, had been called “Pirates.”
Maz belongs to one of the most exclusive clubs in baseball. Those who have ended the season/world series with a walk off home run. The only other member is Joe Carter for the 1993 world series when he took Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams deep in game 6.
