Not taking up for the Clintons, but isn’t paying for information about a candidate something everyone does?

Yes, it is. But the issue here isn't opposition research: President Trump is under investigation for possible collusion with Russia officials to influence the 2016 election; yet, here we have evidence that the information used to justify that investigation was in fact paid for by the losing side in that election and that much of the information was provided by Russian intelligence as a disinformation campaign. Thus, it isn't Trump who was colluding, but the Clintons.

...the sources of the “Russia-Trump dossier” were senior Russian officials....

And THEY would never make stuff up out of whole cloth.

There's nothing more aggravating than the obsessive devotion to the truth exhibited by Russian officials over the years.

It seems to list things based on known facts...but the whole thing about Hillary not knowing is not believable. That the DNC was colluding with Hillary’s campaign during the primaries and considering the amount of money spent, I don’t believe she wouldn’t have signed off on the expense. Surely for that much money she would be part of an approval process. Same goes for somebody in the DNC, what executive level has to sign off?

Particularly if they were being paid handsomely to make things up. Which they were.

I think the argument is that Steele was hired by Fusion GPS after the unnamed Republican ceased funding the oppo research.

So, it's possible that some prior research was leveraged, but the "dirty work" that was done by Steele was funded by Clinton/DNC sources, because the Republican donor had dropped out by then.

... and the evidence for this claim, that the “dirty work” was not done by this Republican who so generously shared his oppo research with Democrats would be what?

I’m in no mood to protect anyone who had anything to do with this, and I’m surprised at how many FReepers are willing to just gloss over a Republican turncoat helping Democrats just because he lost in the primaries to Trump.

What possible reason would a Republican have, for sharing such a thing with the Clinton campaign? Is there an honorable explanation that’s on the up and up? No, there is not.

The evidence appears to be this Washington Post article:

FBI once planned to pay former British spy who authored controversial Trump dossier

Steele, 53, began his Trump investigation in June 2016 after working for another client preparing a report on Russian efforts to interfere with politics in Europe.

U.S. intelligence had been independently tracking Russian efforts to influence electoral outcomes in Europe.

Steele was hired to work for a Washington research firm, Fusion GPS, that was providing information to a Democratic client. Fusion GPS began doing Trump research in early 2016, before it hired Steele, on behalf of a Republican opposed to the businessman’s candidacy. The firm declined to identify its clients.

I'm just repeating what's been reported. This article was published in February 2017, when the political motivations were different from today. You can make your own judgment about the veracity of the source.

Hey Regulator. How do you “know” that the original Republican who hired FusionGPS “shared” anything with the Democrats?

The work product was his, and his alone since he paid for it.

Fusion GPS could not share it with the Dems unless the original payee okayed it.

That is where we need more information. Until then, all your comments are sheer speculation. I’d love to get your ass in court. You’d lose in about a minute.

As far as I'm aware, nothing much came of the "Republican" phase of this operation. There wasn't anything to "share". The content which included the crazy sexual accusations was only generated once the Democrat interests revived and began paying for this continued "opposition research"...

If you had bothered to read my posting history regarding this topic you’d realize how stupid you sound along about now, since you’re just about quoting my last several replies word for word. Nobody here “knows” anything but what has been put forth by the media, your trollassed fake keyboard-lawyering self included.

What point is there to attack a single RINO when a hundred rats were involved. You single out the exception and allow the 99 rats to escape.

A traitor on the inside is worse than an opponent of whom one might expect such garbage. You want to let them skate, these GOPe a-holes trying just as hard as any Democrat to overturn Trump’s election? I don’t.

The Brits— who have been compromised by soviets/russians literally since the Cambridge 5 and through out the 50s-80s, as our “special partner”— they are the gap in our intel armour protecting our elections and Constitutional Republic.

For reference: “The Trust”— the true story of the creation of a fake organization by NKVD head Felix Dzerzhinsky of a fake “counter revolutionary” anti-soviet ex-patriate group of Russians in Paris, and extending into the US in the 1920s. Which formed the basis of ALL US soviet penetration during WWII (to include the A-Bomb spies and their English commie pals at Alamagordo and NYC).

The organization “Fusion GPS” may be considered a “Front” group (yes they love cash from wherever, especially for completely fictional “intel” they sold to the willing idiots in the FBI and our intel apparat)— a British based work product front group, who got their info from “top Russian” leadership.

Underlying all this: the “I’ll be more flexible after the election” statement by obamaumao the kenyan communist/marxist which was shared on live mic-as a top potential agent in place.
To which Medvedev replied “I will inform Vladimir”.

Do not forget the Awan brothers IT managers/spies for Pakistani (possible Russian) cut-outs (Wasserman-Schulz’s threats to get her laptop back— as she compromised US security) contracted in a position of trust then passing on secret intel (for money natch), and- finding out the passing of the DNC “leaks” by physical flash drive to a now dead Brit and thence to Wikileaks— by Seth Rich. These Pakis- willing to bet large— organized his death. There is much more to be revealed, and it should not be allowed to “fade away” because of media distractions off topic. To wit: “it was a Republican oppo research project” (which ended... but someone in the “network of deep cover agents”- a “rino” of some type— was it Iran Deal-Corker,or songbird McCain or one of the china hand Bushies pals?)- handed it over to their mirror cabal of the clintoonians.

Look for new “front groups” who will continue to carry the messages— wherever they can get the funding. This was and is a criminal enterprise. God Bless the USA.

WE have to stay ON this topic— because what is left of these ultra-Leftists who are running the DNC and their pal commies in the media, are continuing to obfuscate and re-write the “narrative”. Scurrying like cockroaches in the pure LED light. Stay after them. Clean our House of Cards.

It is the price of Freedom. Eternal vigilance.

For interested FReepers- here is a thorough resource on Felix Dzerzhinsky- the leader of the Cheka (then the NKVD, then the KGB over timer).

Outlines the methods, strategy and tactics of communists, and- coupled with Alinsky (hero of ms. and meester clintoonian)- echoes their methods (and obamaumao).

In particular, mentioned in prior post is the former Monarchist Union of Central Russia (the front group, aka as “The Trust”). All a fake to destroy opposition foreign and domestic to the Soviet communists from the White Russians in the Russian Civil War.
