I still wasn't sold on the whole thing, but slowly my knee-jerk emotional fear gave way to genuine inquisitiveness. I wanted answers. Why would our founders put the Second Amendment right after the one that protected our right to speech and religion? Why would someone want more than one gun? What's the danger in gun registration?
The process lasted nearly two years, a grueling amount of time, but I wasn't going to let go of my "rational" distrust of guns, or the seeming ease of being able to get them, easily. After all, facts have no use in an emotional argument, and it took that long to see the issue without the murky filter I was looking through.
Slowly, facts won.

Just make sure you don’t teach one of the rabid anti-Trump liberals how to shoot.
I think some of them are taking lessons.
I don’t own guns, and don’t plan to. I go shooting occasionally with some friends who kindly take me along and taught me the basics of safety and shooting.
I’m also still generally trusting of most of American society and the police.
BUT - I am very pleased with the fact my neighbors are all armed. And above all, having lived in communist countries, I know that a disarmed society is a nation of slaves and sheep. The author didn’t mention this most important fact.
Anytime “imagine” comes on I want to puke. I have read that Lennon was becoming more conservative over time. Guess we’ll never know for sure. Just as long as the left can prop him up with their anti-gun screed............ I suppose any and all other types of violence are okee dokee.
Maybe he can hardly wait to put his “hunting rights” to use. LOL!
Just as an aside, I’ve always believed in the 2nd. Even after a negligent discharge took the life a a close friend’s son, and 4 folks I knew well that committed suicide with guns. My views have never wavered.
When living in CA, I drove liberal boss to lunch, and she noticed the NRA decal on the window. She asked, “Are you one of those pistol-packin’ mamas”?
I told I wasn’t, but believe 100 percent in the Second Amendment and we send a ton of money to the NRA every year. She didn’t know how to respond so said nothing. Always looked at me funny after that. And she never messed with me. ;)
To my surprise I find a lot of people who have never been around firearms, that lack of familiarity/knowledge is what causes them to blame/fear firearms as a knee jerk reaction.
When I grew up I did not personally know anyone that did not have firearms, they were everywhere. Many people still hunted, many were not far from agriculture roots- grandparents still had farm or at least rural property. Most men had served in WWII, Korea or both so had that experience with firearms as well. As people moved to cities, they felt less need for firearms- hunting fell by the wayside for most. Many of those raised after 1950s have had little exposure to firearms, either as a tool on a ranch or farm, or for hunting. Not being familiar with firearms they do not see it even for the obvious use of self defense. Instead they fear them and have been easy to gather up to oppose firearms for those with an agenda to end rights to own firearms.
The first person I met that feared firearms and saw them as evil was a neighbor that brought her daughter to my house to play with my daughter. The girls were toddlers, needing constant supervision for a million reasons. My husband came in with a rifle one day, just walked through the house with it to put it away- and that woman freaked out and said she would no longer allow her daughter to come to our house because we had firearms. No discussion, no questions, we just immediately became evil in her mind because we owned firearms. From her rant it was obvious she had a real serious fear of firearms in general. I had never encountered anyone like that before that day but it became more common to meet, and read about people like that over the years.
It is easy to demonize that you don’t know about.
When I used to take my Elderly Aunt to Dialysis, I befriended an older Gal who was next to her and happened to be very Liberal.
After knowing her a while, she made a comment about poor little Trayvon and that murdering Zimmerman guy while watching a story on TV at the Facility.
After she commented, I told her the difference between me and Zimmerman is that I would have emptied the entire Magazine into that SOB Trayvon if he had attacked me.
She was shocked by my comment. She said are you one of those NRA people? I said absolutely. I’ve owned Firearms my entire life.
Her response? But, but, you’re so nice.

“Her response? But, but, you’re so nice.” Obviously she didn’t know you that well. LOL! Odd thing is that there were NO guns in my house growing up. I don’t think my folks thought we needed any or because my dad was a careen Navy officer and we moved so much it wasn’t worth the hassle. We never really talked about it. Can’t now.
He purchased the weapon of choice of the most violent drug dealers, a .22 rifle. I say this jokingly...
Yep. The Ruger 10/22 is a well-known gateway gun. Let one of those into your life and pretty soon you're checking out the Barretts to see if they'll fit into your trunk. Seen it happen...
I know many such people. IMHO, you eventually always upset inflexible people, or she would have proven herself to be a poor neighbor or friend. You can have real friends, but many are simply people you are simply nice to, but that's all. Better to get it out of the way early.
